ammo getting scarce again?

I know .22lr is still hard to find consistently, but I recently saw on sgammo that they are back to limiting cases of popular rifle/pistol rounds. Have not really noticed anywhere else, just wondering if this is a sign that the madness is coming back.

Hope not, I still need some .22lr.

Shelves are filling up again in local stores. No 22's and 380 is scarce, but most popular factory ammo is available. I'm finding the bullets I want for reloadg. Powder is spotty, but I've managed to put back 3-5 lbs of all the types I use.

Not scarce around here. Shelves are pretty full except for .22, and 9mm is still a bit light on choices.

9x19mm regulations & restrictions.....

My state Div of Licensing still has the regulations in effect re; re-quals and handgun calibers for license holders(security PIs etc).
Only one handgun re-qual is required to meet the Division standards; instead of the highest score from three attempts.
A local range/security school also still requires a higher payment for using school-range ammunition.
Even if that means low-quality reloads(.380acp 9mm .38spl).
I've seen a few stores & online sources with major brands but not all carry-duty rounds are available, even in 2014. :(
Winchester Ranger T/T series still seems rare. DPX or PowRball are also hard to buy sometimes.

There appears to be good amounts of 223 around here, also 9, 38 special, 40 and 45. 380 is still VERY hard to find as well as 357. 22LR is non-existent. All of the stores I talk to say they only get a little here and there, nothing consistent or anywhere near what they were receiving pre-panic.

Here in N NV, 22lr and 380 is non-existant. Everything else is available, but 223 prices seem to be rising a bit.

380 is EVERYWHERE here. It was just as common as 40 when the shortage was at its peak. Then again, there aren't really too many little 380s running around since CC is basically impossible in SoCal. Running at 14.98 for a box of 50 at Walmart, and they literally always have some.

22 is around, just not as often. A lot of the gun shops have inflated the prices a little, but I suspect that 7-10 cents a round is going to be the permanent price of 22. You can scream all you want for people to stop buying it at that price, but they won't.

All the common rounds are pretty easy to find, and pretty close to what they were pre panic.

I think there is a run due to fear of a possible ban on Russian ammo. Millions of rounds that we get from the rooskies maybe disappearing would make situation worse.

Only russian I shoot is 7.62x39 and I've got plenty stocked. But other calibers would get pressured too by a possible ban.

Plinking factory ammo is a bit hard to find here ( at least without inflated prices) .22's narly imposible to find without paying 45-60 bucks a brick. Plenty of premium rounds and reloading componets except pistol powder. Personally i think its caused from people getting there taxes back and stockpilling everything. I have a co-worker that got his tax check in and bought 100,000 rounds of .22 at a local store without a limit for 80 bucks a brick.

Just saw the thread about the Russian ammo, come to think of it the ammo I saw a limit on it was 7.62x39. That would explain it.

Hampton Roads... for the last 6 months or so, LGS's are fully stocked with all calibers. .22lr is sold at a premium of about double normal, but there's plenty of it. Everything else is back to normal.

3 local Walmarts that I preruse are also back to 90% normal inventory on everything except .22lr and 9mm. Both of those still sell out quickly the morning of the twice-weekly shipments, but at least 2 Walmarts have so much .40/.45/.223/.308/7.62x29 that they store surplus in the back-cage in receiving. Shotgun shells of all sizes/varieties are everywhere.

Other good news is that I have no problem getting bullets and primers at Gunshows. Powder is also plentiful at 3 LGS's in town at normal prices. I'm easily reloading 9mm for about .11cents for FMJ's without buying in huge bulk... could certainly get that down a penny or two if I switched to hardcast and started buying in more volume.

Was at a gunshow in CA last week when I was at 29Palms... 555ct Winchester .22lr was $75 and nobody was buying, which mimics what I'm seeing at the gunshows out east.

I don't see the shortage of .22lr being alleviated anytime soon... I'm talking years, if ever. Too many of us now realize the usefulness of that particular caliber. It's now a universal commodity... perhaps even a form of currency. I'd love to be sitting on 50k rds and I know I'm not alone. Seriously, if could be at Walmart every Sunay morning when they stock the cage, I'd probably buy 1000rds of .22lr a week for a whole year just because.

The shelves seem to be full, unlike several months ago. The insanity continues for the .22lr and there doesn't seem to be much 38spl and .357mag. There seems to be all kinds of 9mm and .223/5.56 and the most I see is .40S&W, boxes and boxes of it in all configurations and manufacturers. It seems like if the caliber size begins with ".4" (.44mag, .44spl,. .45acp) you are all set.

And what state does this? Where is the info available for view and print?

I respectfully appeal to everyone reading this thread to refute this rumor wherever and whenever you hear it.

I have not seen ANY credible evidence that a Russian ammo ban is in the works. I do NOT want to see any more runs on ammo due to incredulous rumor-mongering. This is bad for the shooting sports.

I disagree. I think it's a bubble that's fixing to burst.

BTW one of the hallmarks of a classic market bubble is market analysis saying that the nature of the market for [name of commodity] has fundamentally changed.

IMHO we are in a situation in which people are hoarding .22LR and the prices are going up simply because others are hoarding .22LR and the prices are going up. I predict that the market is going to collapse and it's going to happen fast, albeit not necessarily soon. Some of the hoarders presumably have so much .22 that they can probably shoot for years without buying any more.

Same basic thing here. Generic 9mm FMJ practice loads have been scarce until 2-3 weeks ago; the shelves are now filling up, but only with the more expensive types.

The Gander Mountain Firearms supercenter nearby me has been the place most consistently stocked with ammo and the prices have been decent and comparable to other nearby places. They had craploads of 9mm months ago. Now they're out. They have enough .45 to choke a whale. They had 500 packs of CCI .22LR sitting on the counter when I went by a few months ago and it was reasonably priced. I casually picked one up. I wish I'd gone back for more. Now they have some crap Federal stuff not cheap. It's kind of weird. Lots of .380, but it's around .50/shot. I was getting some Monarch .380 for $17/50 shots from Academy, but they don't have much of anything again.

Around here - everything except 9mm FMJ and 22 LR is easy to get.

One day they will have more 22 LR than you ever have seen if the hoarders lighten up.

I did a little shopping for factory ammo, for the first time in two or three years, on Sunday.
I asked about .22 rimfire, and the kid said, "I get one box every Monday morning. Sometimes it's 50 rounds, sometimes 100, sometimes 1000."
CCI alone makes millions of rounds a day, I see no increase in the number of people at the club, so it's apparently not going downrange.

Stopped at my local Wal-Mart tonight after work and swung by the ammo cabinet to see what the supplies were. Everything, and I do mean everything was full. Even .22LR! They sold 8 boxes of .22LR bulk pack in the short time I was there, but still plenty left. They even had 150 round boxes of M855 for $60 which isn’t too awful bad, I guess.
