American Riflemans Top 10 Handguns of all...

I think the list is of guns that were copied, or incorporated into many future designs.

The 1851 Navy was a great revolver and you can easily justify it making the list.

The Luger was used by many nations in many configurations....but where is it today and what parts of the Luger are shown in modern firearms? The Browning locking system is used in almost all modern pistols. The HP had an influence far greater than just HP Production.

The Glock, really had nothing new. But it was done in a way, and done so well that dozens of companies have copied Glock's Work. What did the glock do first? Hi-cap? No. Plastic? No. Trigger Safety? No. Striker Fire System? No. New locking System? No. There was nothing new....but the mad did a fantastic job combining new materials, new production techniques and proven designs to make a great pistol that has won over even the toughest plastic gun critics.

No Ruger Revolvers?

Like all so-called "lists", opinions are like you-know-what's, everybody has one amd I don't agree with this one.

I wish to have seen the Ma Deuce on the list It was created before the Hi Power and might be considered outdated by some but is defiently an invention way before its time So it gets my vote
:D:D
Not Outdated just way before its time Browning born 100 years early!!!! Right on Pahoo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's sort of easy to diss the Glock, but we must remember that it was a game changing weapon. Not the first polymer framed gun, but definitely the most adopted. Part of this is because it's DAO according to BAFTE and thus cops flocked to it. But it is also highly reliable, accurate, and holds a lot of rounds. And, as everyone knows, you can sneak through airport metal detectors with one because they're made of plastic.

Doubtless someone would have come along with a similar design to the Glock at some point (as form follows function) but maybe we would not have so many reliable options currently if Glock hadn't have come out with such a good design to start with.

Statistically at least 25 handguns recieved votes from the ten voters. Likely closer to 30 or more.
The top ten listed only recieved 350 votes out of a possible 550.
Leaving 200 votes for handguns not listed.
The list would have been more complete if the top twenty were polled among the ten experts voting; rather than only ten.
Better yet, each and every handgun voted for could have been listed along with the number of votes. Even those recieving one vote.
I'm confident a few rather obscure handguns would appear on such a list giving us even more discussion material.

I don't see how the Colt single action army revolver does'nt start every list made for handguns.

I could be wrong but was'nt this revolver the start of all modern mass produced reliable handguns?

And did it not introduce the use of reliable brass cartridge rounds as well on a large use basis?

Yes,I am looking to be corrected here actually.

It's so sad that these respectable gun experts would rate the S&W Hand ejector at #3 when it is a copy of the Colt 1889.

Okay, everyone at TFL who has a Colt 1889, please post.

Now, everyone at TFL who has a S&W Hand Ejector, please post.

Now, let's count them up.

So you are saying Kahr and Lorcin should be in the top ten?

Fun reading all y'alls posts. Asking for "opinions" is sure to generate disagreement because ain't hardly noboby gonna agree. My favorite handgun is not even on the list and I understand why. That doesn't trouble me. It's just fun to see how other folks think, doesn't change my views at all.

I Just Suprised That any Smith and Wesson would make it in the top Ten !
Overpriced Junk! Smith has Never been inovating and has turn there back on gun owners before! Let us not forget! So basically giving money to smith and wesson would pretty much be like sending Sarah Brady a blank check! I for one will never buy a new Smith even if its so cheap that I could sell it and buy ten Brownings! :D

:barf: ON smith and wessons

Smith and Wesson Hand Ejector encompasses every J, K, L, N and X-frame revolver that S&W has made since 1905 or thereabouts.

Re-think your position on Lorcin and Kahr.

Why rugers I understand colts are very expensive even if reliable but ruger has been nothing but fresh and new ideas at a modest price since they quit making aircraft tools!

Regarding gun makers that have screwed over the American gun-buying free public. Bill Ruger was a proponent of 10-round magazine limits and Colt decided to cease public sales of their rifles back in the Klinton era to try and make "friends" in the govt. I'm sure there are many others.
