American plinking ammo should compete with wolf....

So, you buy Wolf because it is economical but, Wolf is some how "raping" American shooters with their prices

yeah it's economical compared to American brass cased and copper jacketed ammo, sure. I feel that the materials used to make the Russian ammo isn't reflected in its price.

Wolf Black Box is from Tula Cartridge Works.

Wolf Military Classic is from Ulyanovsk.

The "Bears" are Barnaul.

Golden Tiger is Vympel.

I had not known that. I had some crappy info.

Basically what you are saying is that the cheap ammo isn't cheap enough for you and therefore you feel sexually violated.

Wow.

I had not known that. I had some crappy info.

Well, that is the first thing you have gotten right in this thread.

Anyone else having difficulty understanding the gist of the OP's posts? Wolf is not a packager. Most of the ammo mfgers you state are indeed seperate.

I think the OP is complaining that Wolf is charging too much for its product. I think that the OP believes that this is some type of evil market manipulation. This is an opportunity for a very simple economics lesson.

  • There are many manufacturers of ammunition, both foreign and domestic
  • The price of ammunition varies somewhat from brand to brand
  • Ammunition from several brands is very likely to be available at a store near you.
  • Probably at more than one store
  • and online, from more than one seller

If the product is made by several makers, sold everywhere, and varies in price then by definition the game cannot be rigged.

If ammo were hard to find, in short supply and always the same price no matter who you buy it from you'd have an issue to complain about--probably market rigging or price collusion of some sort.

But the facts of the ammunition market in the USA say that the prices are where they are because supply and demand have put them there. Gun ownership is rising (see the stories about record black friday gun sales). People are shooting more (I can't get a lane at my range). People are stockpiling ammo for the end of the world (see innumerable threads on TFL) . Wars are going on(duh). The dollar in 2011 ain't the dollar from 2001 (I refuse to cite a source for this. If you wanna challenge it talk to Ben Bernarke).

Let's all agree to stop shooting and stockpiling ammo so the price will come down, shall we??

Or we can just realize that things sell for what they are worth, always. Unless there is market manipulation (as in forcing you to buy a product or restricting production of an item to only a few manufacturers, or to only a certain quantity). Which isn't the case here.

I'm going with option 2

OP...........did you ever consider that shipping ammo from Russia is slightly more expensive ?

While the raw materials are cheaper, shipping costs are not.

Uh - can we drop the sexual implications in the conversation?

Don't buy the stuff if you don't like it. Glad that Russia is playing in the free market. Or maybe we should go back to the Cold War?

I have read and re-read the OP's posts but can't figure out if the issue is with Russian ammo companies or the American companies for not being as cheap. If you want to complain about American prices not being competitive, then complain about foreign ammo having no quality control due to "bullets bent sideways" (can that even happen?), but continue to buy it because it's cheaper, then what exactly is the problem? The seemingly contradictory points made, combined with the misinformation in regards to Russian mfg companies being the same ammo (which took exactly 3 minutes to refute), does not help to get the original intent of the post(which was?) across. Still confused.

I would still love to see a bullet bent sideways:eek:

Dude, don't take your ball and go home because we looked at it funny! ;) Try to explain it better so we can understand. That's why they give you pages and pages to do so. Just try not to seemingly contradict your own points you make. It's all good. I am still waiting for a pic of a bullet bent sideways though. :)

Wolf ammo is crap? NOW you tell me after I bought a whole brick of their .22 lr ammo.

Of course it is, Wolf rimfire is made in Germany by NAMMO Group, the makers of Lapua, etc. I'm still shooting Wolf Match Target I bought for $15 a brick.

I have a few cases of WMT and WME left. I should sell it by the box and retire. :)

+1. Word on the street is that Wolf Match Target is the same thing as SK Standard Plus. It bears the same headstamp and certainly looks and shoots the same, so I believe it. Wolf is generally a bit cheaper, although this varies from time to time. I buy whichever is on sale at Midway. :)

BLE - what's up with that horrendous flyer at 9:00?

(envious sarcasm)

I really like Wolf MT, too. I don't shoot as well with it as you do, but I'm getting better.
