Ambushed while buying Powder!

I have been having a hell of a time finding powder for my magnum revolvers anywhere up in New England--at least anyone who will ship. I finally found a small store in Bangor which had some 4227--which while not quite as good as w296 or H110 for me, I only have about a lb left--beggars can't be choosey.

I'd never been to this place before because they don't seem to advertise much, and I'm already supporting 4 other LGS closer to me that are collectively and gradually sending me to the poor house.

Against my better better judgement, while cashing out for the powder I noticed a nice collection of handguns for sale, I very casually asked, "BTW, you got any pistols in 10 mm?"--that has been on my "most desired new weapon" list for many years but I never quite acted on the impulse since my 41 and 44 mag blackhawks keep me plenty busy.

Low and behold, they have a NIB Glock 20 for $560.

Ten minutes later I exit the store with powder, new gun, dies, PMC cheapo ammo for brass harvesting, 2 boxes of xtp's and desantis holster 1K poorer thinking "what just happened?" : )

Well, let just admit, that some of us get ambushed very easily. But let me ask you what else is the green back good for?
Before you answer, I tell you an example.
I was deer hunting, and forgot to take some you know what kind of paper with me, so I thought I'll use some of those with the paint on it.....
It wasn't good, just way too slippery, hard/tough.
Let yourself ambushed often.

I've been looking at the glock 20 and 20sf for a while, but it just doesn't fit my hand good. But ironically the glock 29 and 29sf feel great. But I won't get it because of the shorter barrel/performance. Good luck with your reloading!

I just read the manual through prior to first disassemble and clean--and it says (not much of a surprise) that any use of reloaded or remanufactured ammo voids the warranty--just like the DPMS's I have bought. Oh well...

It does have a pretty fat grip--even compared to my XD which I always thought was beamy. I haven't fired it yet--but the trigger is going to take some getting used to-- it feels heavier than the advertised 5 lbs pull or so

It happens to the best of us :D.
I leave my credit cards and check book at home a lot of the time because of things like what happend to you:).

There are plenty of aftermarket barrels if you want to shoot reloads. I sold my G20 before I started loading for it.

Metalboy, if there is a next time, sacrifice a sock or your underwear :p However, I understand your point.

stagpanther... I'm glad you ended your post with a smile. I'd say that means you made a good decision. Glad to hear you reload!

Always wanted a 10mm but I've never been a fan of Glock--this is my first and hopefully this will change my mind. Interestingly, although the glock is the slim frame model it is still bigger--especially the grip--than my full-size XD 45. I personally don't really mind wide grips on pistols--my feeling is all pistols and revolvers have their grip challenges (try firing a slim-gripped 44 mag or bigger), the more surface area of the backstrap the more distributed the recoil force will be into your palm IMO. I'll find out today when I do some test shooting--though it will be in the twenties outside in the windy snow and ice. : )

Same here...I'm very interested in 10mm but I have this idea that the cartridge really punishes the guns it's used in...but a Glock? Who cares. So I think I might have snapped up the deal you found too.

Looking forward to your range report.
Good luck.

The ballistics don't look like much more than a 357 mag and the only handguns I regularly fire are 41 and 44 mags so I'm anticipating the recoil isn't going to be much of a deal. Gonna wait til noon to go out so it is at least "less cold."

although the glock is the slim frame model

SF stands for Short Frame, not Slim Frame.

The grip is not thinner than the regular 20.
It is a tiny bit smaller front to back. Measured from the back of the trigger guard behind the trigger to the "backstrap" where it makes contact with the web of your hand.

29 sf vs. 20sf

But I won't get it because of the shorter barrel/performance.

Siggy-06, for what it's worth, I have both Glocks 20sf & 29sf.

I also load my own ammo and have a chronograph. Amazingly, there is very little velocity difference produced between the 20 & 29.

Examples (the first readings are the 29; the second are the 20):

983 fps vs. 988 fps ("FBI Load")
1219 fps vs. 1232 fps (hot 180g)
1046 fps vs. 1063 fps (180g target load)
1064 fps vs 1067 fps (another 180g target load)
1244 fps vs 1280 fps (hot 165g)

As you can see, it has been my experience that there is little velocity loss with the smaller 29. The 20 handles a little more tame, of course.

Precisely.

Although I wouldn't characterize the difference as "a tiny bit." I have seen/held Glocks 20 & 20sf at the same time. The difference is considerable. I don't know the exact dimension, but I think it's in the order of 3/8" or so. For those of us with small hands, the sf's are godsends.

I stand corrected--sorry about that.

Thanks for the velocity info Nick. I'm surprised there is so little difference. I wonder if Glock will ever release the 29 with a slimmer slide like the 30s.
