Am I the only one this happens to??? Please say no.....

I purchased a large pistol case and keep all my spare magazines I am not carrying in it just for the reason posted. Now where is that case, oh it in the safe.

Let me guess . . . The dashboard on every car you drive looks like the top of the coffee table in your apartment. And the coffee table looks like the tin-can bin at the recycle center.

I went through four years of P.E. in high-school with ONE jock strap, ONE pair of gym shorts, ONE pair of sweat socks.

Now and then I find piles of garbage left behind on the tables at fast-food restaurants -- where you bus your own table, or there's a heap of crap sitting on top of the garbage can. And I wonder to myself, "I wonder what their house looks like."

misplacements

generally i am good about keeping track of my firearm "accessories". only once did i have a snafu and i'm glad i remembered.

We had just finished up at the range and it started raining, so we were in a bit of a hurry to pack up etc. i left my mossberg 44US mag on the bench, and we took off. we drove for about 2 miles and for some reason i just said out loud "forgot the 44US mag...must get"

there it was on the bench :-)

Redneck, I have to tell you that I've never (at least not yet) lost anything related to a firearm; never. Hope you find some of it.

I'm always good for losing magazines and speed loaders in my shooting storage. I have a shelf for all of such things, but I always have to rumage for what I am looking for; somehow its always the only piece out of place.

Oh, and I once lost a speed loader in my shooting bag for sometime. There must be a hidden compartment to another dimension in there; theres no way I could have missed it so many times when reaching in for it in just a small bag....

I somehow manage to 'overlook' the largest rifle mags among all the ones stacked up, too.

As far as the laundry, Columbia River knife has been run through the wash many times; I often don't find it until I go to wear the pants again and find it still clipped on the waistband. Funny how one can not notice that something is missing like that, especially since i carry it most every day....

Geez, I have to say in 30+ years of gun ownership, I've never lost anything gun related. When it relates to a firearm, I'm focused, focused, focused. I like it that way, and it works for me (but not the bad guys who might like to pick up my lost stuff). I actually do focus checks: "OK, I'm leaving the car, where is the firearm? Locked and loaded? Where is the round? Where is the safety? This goes where? How about this?"

I think it's mental, and important.

Just yesterday,I got a new gunsmith screwdriver set to replace the one that's somewhere!!! You gotta have those special bits.:p

So far, the only thing I've temporarily misplaced was a box of rifle ammo. I knew I bought two boxes. I found the rebate form just under the bed. I could account for one box. The other was nowhere to be found. After looking in the car's trunk, the garage, my corner of the closet, etc., etc., I finally looked under the bed from the other side and saw it. Doh! And I remembered it being with the rebate form. I must have accidentally pushed it further under the bed. Will definitely be more careful in the future.

I have those kind of gremlins too.

I once had a cellphone go from the middle of the passenger seat to all the way behind me under the middle seat of a van and I was driving like granddad at the time.

I only found it when it started ringing.

So I am that kind of person,I lose stuff all the time.

But my gun stuff,I really want to keep a grip on.

It's either by my bed or in my gun cases.

And when I carry,it's either where I carry it or I put it back in my plastic gun cases.

You have to stop the gremilins by not giving them the chance to magically lose your junk.

If you put down small things like gun mags, you better put them in a gun case or glovebox (unloaded) or somewhere where they cannot be moved by the car hitting bumps or going around corners.

Of course that does'nt stop them from moving my keys, wallet glasses,shoes,tools,........

Bullets and Brass

At the range those bullets just seem to disappear!!! Right through the target and abracadabra vanish! (I am beginning to suspect that targets are actually doorways to alternate spaces, kind of like the more well known portal - dryers and socks.)

But seriously, I think that there are little people who live under small rocks that catch and quickly hide some of my brass when I go out shooting. (The Brass Fairies?) No matter how hard I look they always seem to get some every time! Fast little people! And while I might not begrudge them some .22lrs, when they start in with my 10mm it starts to get personal!

When you have too many of some things, you can lose track.

One day a long time ago, I remembered that I had a Model 66 snubby that I had liked a lot. But I looked all over the place and couldn't find it, and after some weeks of still not having it turn up, I even began to "vaguely remember" that I may have sold it to my brother at some time in the past. But I don't talk with my brother much and wouldn't even know how to get ahold of him to ask.
So I wrote off the 66 and just forgot about it, assuming my brother had it.

Then a year or so later, I was going through a box of stuff I had stored long-term and there it was, safely tucked in between some other stuff.

Now I'm beginning to remember that as you get older, you start to have false memories. At least I think I remember.

I thought I lost my Les Baer Prem II a couple of years ago. That was the scariest 2 minutes of my life. It was in my range bag the whole time, I just overlooked it initially.

I don't loose mags but on many occasions, I've forgotten to take the loose ammo out of my pants pockets after shooting. I tend to remember once I take my cloths out of the dryer and I find coins, lint, and 9mms left behind.

No but then again my family makes fun of the way I have to have everything in its place. That is until I am not home and they need tools or something else.

I never loose anything. I am almost anal about putting things into a safe place whenever I put them down. That way I'll know where they are when I need them.

If I ever catch that son of a bat-stitcher who keeps hiding my safe places while my back is turned, he's gunna bleed.

:D

I can honestly say that I've never misplaced, lost, dropped, or otherwise botched a firearm, magazine, or anything that resembles a firearm accessory. But, between those, my car keys, my wallet and my Leatherman, they are about the only items that have NOT been misplaced at least once in this house. As you can imagine, there are multi-thousands of other things that are at least as important.:(

Lost a S&W Model 37 once. Looked for it for a week, scared to death, about where it was. Turned the whole place upside down several times, then remembered I'd traded it on another gun a year before.

Now THAT would be rather embarrassing. I "lost" my AMT .45 like that, but I didn't give it a second thought.:D
