Am I that unusual?

Little background.

I am 20 (soon to be 21, then handgun time)

I grew up doing a little airsoft in middle school (just plinking).
Then air guns for a bit in high school while it was legal in the back yard.

Not till I was 17ish did I shoot a real gun (boy scouts dont count, it was a joke and parents dont condone shooting or support it at all).

But all the guns I like are old designs...

LeEnfield 303
Browning hi-power
CZ-82
Colt SAA kind of Ruger New Vaquero (cant afford a real SAA and I want a good shooter)
SxS and some O/U's
Ruger Mark 1
S&W Model 27 (refuse to buy a S&W with a lock)
Ruger Blackhawk
1911
Mosin M44
Ruger No. 1
Model 41
Sharps rifle
I can't stand optics, they never treat me well

I dont have much interest in the AR-15 (AR-15A2 NM from rock river is the most interesting), Glock, XD, or things like that.

I like the feel of steel and metal. Just feels solid.

I think I grew up in the wrong era.

Weirdo!!! You're supposed to likw new age polymer handguns with huge capacity magazines!!!

Says the 28 year old who would load up his gun cabinet with Cowboy action and gangster era type guns if he had the money :D

If I won the lotto, I'd go out and grab:

-SAA clone (45 Colt)
-Stagecoach gun (12 ga)
-Lever gun in (45 colt)
-Thompson clone (45 ACP)
-BAR
-Colt Detective Special
-Colt 1911
-M1 Garand

Not that I'm gonna throw away my Glock or anything, but I like the old style as much as the next fella.

Browning Hi-power and an 870 with a few barrels and I could do anything.

Heck, I am trying to sell some of my guns to make it happen.

I dont like to comprise anything when I buy something that is for "pleasure".
I work a job (once I graduate) to pay for my hobbies, and shooting is one of them.

I want to buy something new (not used, does not feel like it is really mine then) and have it last a life time. I would rather have 2 or 3 nice quality guns than 30-40 that make me go meh even if they do last.

I appreciate fine craftsmanship. Just sometimes it is hard to pay for.
Even as the months of waiting goes by the prices just keep going up and the old ones get even more beat up :(

I actually sold a M1 because I did not really like it. Just a little too heavy and mine was not accurate (well used I think would be a good term).

You're just fine. The only plastic I own is a KelTec P32, and that's not for collecting or fun shooting. Everything else is wood, steel, and blue or black.

You are a wise young man. Enjoy. The weapons you describe require that you learn good fundamentals. Those habits will serve you well.

On that vein, I've had a long love of the old west weapons. The revolvers, the colts. The Iconic Colt Peacemaker. Yeah, I feel ya. Though I can't fault the progress in weapons manufacturing.

EDIT: Oh, oh, oh, the lever action, fire from the hip rifles. (Yes, I know that's a mo vie thing, doesn't make it any less cool to watch.)

I don't know about them being ugly some of the new .45 M&P SW models are quite attractive IMO. I even bought one. It fires decently, has never failed. And I have put this weapon throught he ringer. Never FTE or FTF.

The first thing I noticed is that you have good taste. ;) And no, not odd at all. I'm probably the only person I know who has an equal number of handguns, rifles and shotguns, and it probably won't stay that way. I also recently discovered that I love shooting revolvers. Just bought two cases of ammo for mine, probably be buying dies for it soon...

i reviewed your list again. I noted some items which were absent from your list.
There is nothing quite as enjoyable as shooting a Black Powder reproduction. You might want to add the following to your list:

"Hawken rifle in 50cal or larger" Jermiah Johnson.
Navy Colt 36 cal. Hickoks prefered pistol.
Remington Army 44 cal. My first Pistol
Kentucky Pistol. You get a feel for "standing on your hind legs and shooting like a man". I forget who uttered that line.

My Hawken and Kentucky Pistol were assembled from kits. It is a pleasure to shoot something which you have finished with your own hands.

PS My son, 2 years ago, took a WV Buck with an Enfield open sight at over 100 yards.
