ALL THIS TALK ABOUT BAD AMMO

I have only had one problem with "factory" ammo. I knew it was reloaded, but @ 6.50 for 50 rounds of .38 Special Wadcutters, and being low on cash I bought a couple boxes, After about 30 rounds the pistol (an S&W Model 10 which has never miss fired except on this day) completly locked up. I had to get the range instuructor to take a look @ it. He lubed it for me and I went on. Then there were only about 10 more rounds left, and it locked up AGAIN. The moral of the story is don't buy facotry reloads simply because THEY SUCK.

I think the high number of bad ammo reports here is due to two factors:

1. TFL people go through ammo like a political action committee goes through "soft money".

2. There's more reason to report bad stuff than good. If Bullet-Stuffer Brand's new Ultimate Wham-O .45 JHP misfeeds and kabooms on you all the time, you naturally want to warn people off before someone gets hurt.

I've met a few people who rave about the great deals they get on 5,000-round cases of Paraguayan Air Force Surplus 9mm or whatever. Ho-kay, but some of them use it all the time, not just at the range. Saving a buck or two on practice ammo is fine, at the range you have plenty of time to clear malfs. Using El Cheapo might even be good for you, because it gives you plenty of practice recovering from jams. :)

For carry, though, remember what we motorcyclists say:

IF YOU HAVE A $5 HEAD, WEAR A $5 HELMET

Same applies to ammo. If not just practicing, I want the Cadillac stuff. No reloads, no discount mil-surp. Give me Federal Personal Defense, Winchester Silvertips or Speer Gold Dots.
