All the ammo in Wal Mart, Academy, etc. is gone.

In my area, 380 has dried up. One therory is that a lot of men bought their wives' 380 pistols for self defence and wanted to make sure they had plenty of ammo. I've heard of other calibers drying up in other areas.

I work at Cabelas and if we get any .380 in it's gone within a couple hours, and our store is out until the next weekly shipment. This is of all brands of .380. We also can't keep 9mm in stock right now. Everything else seems to be ok, just those two calibers are the worst for availability.

And it's not just us, our largest competitors in town (Sportman's Warehouse and Black Sheep) are out as well everytime I go in their stores.

Ammunition Shortage?

I live in Colorado, in the four corners areas and I don't know how it is nationwide but there's a serious shortage of handgun ammo around here.

I have been to every store I can think of within 50 miles and there isn't a shred of 9mm ammo anywhere to be found and other popular calibers like .38 special, .357, .45 and .40 are in limited supply (though not near as dire as 9mm ammo.)

I've talked to several gun dealers and other people about the shortage, and some say hit's because the Army is ordering lots of 9mm ammo for the war effort, but others have said the Army only uses certain types of ammo so some manufacturers wouldn't be effected by that.

Some people even think it's political (I completely disagree, how could they tell a business not to make more ammo?)

Anyway, I just wanted to know if other people out there were having problems buying 9mm ammo because even Cabella's and Cheaper than Dirt seem completely out of target 9mm (self defense rounds still seem very available.)

Since I just bought a new Beretta 92FS I'd like to be able to take it to the range and practice...

shortage in the retail stores around here Northern KY... guns shows have plenty but they are charging a premium for it... I think the current political climate created a spike in demand thus creating a shortage from a lot of guys hoarding... I know if I owned an ammo factory or an ar-15/ar-10 manufacturing facility I would be running 24/7

I have been focused on shooting more of 22lr and forgot how much fun it can be... saving all my "big" ammo for the bad guys, zombies, or whatever we hoard ammo for

Ammoman seems to be out of a lot of things too, including 9mm.

9mm is probably the most popular cartridge on the market and we're out. I wonder how long until these factories start shipping.

Winchester said they are making ammo 24/7 right now trying to keep up with demand but they are still struggling. The trick is to find the backwoods gunshops that are hard to get to or kinda out of the way... they generally have cheaper gun prices, more selection, and ALL ammo stocked for reasonable prices like $11 per box of 50 9mm. Wal-Mart or other chain stores or outdoor supply stores are really hard to find anything at... around here they sell out before it hits the shelves.

I jsut went on vacation in WI (from TX) and stopped at every Cabelas, Gander Mountain and every gun store that I could find, and there is NOTHING! The shelves were completely wiped clean of 9mm, and what was left was WAY too expensive to even worry about buying. I did pick up a box of Magtech First Defense in .45 ACP, just to try, and a box of .45 PMC, and that was the last box of FMJ stuff.

I was talking to one guy in a mom and pop gun store and he said that he hasnt seen a box of .45 in 6 months.

I dont believe its the Army, I believe its all of the worry warts (myself included) that are buying all of the ammo up. This happened the last time a Democrat was elected, but this guy, I dunno, he's wacked...

But I bought all I could find, and will cherish it... :p

You just need to go a little farther north, like say Minnesota. There is apparently no shortage there, in fact there is slack demand such that Alliant is laying people off. Go figure.

We are being duped guys IMHO. At some point in the very near future, there will be plenty of ammo for everyone, but it will now be at the new elevated price. Much like the food industry has done to us last year when our grains went up, thanks to Wall Street greed, and the food industry tried to paint us farmers as the evil ones. Now, our grains are back in the tank, and have you noticed any food price drops as a result of the lower input costs the food manyfacturers now that grain prices are lower. Livestock producers are taking it up the wazoo, but we are still paying upwards of $7 to $9/pound for decent beef cuts in the store.

The gullible public is gonna get whacked again, and will get accustomed to the new prices and just keep right on paying them. We will only complain for a while, they know that.

In my area of Ohio, the cubbards are bare. Cant find any 9mm any where. Went to Caballas in Cols. no ammo. Vances is out of it, Buckeye sports, Walley Smart, Meijers. No one has any. Cant give a date when any will be in. One fellow said he found a couple of boxes at a feed mill supply. No luck for me. A few weeks ago was at a gun show, some fellow had a box of 9's made in China. I bought them. I thought I was buying gold, instead I found out they contained lead.:) One gun store dealer said he had people come in and purchase some of those old Russian x military pistols for a $100 and ammo and was burying it in different spots.

I was at Dicks today and they had about a case of Remington 9mm, 44 mag, 40 S&W, and 125 gr 357 mag. I bought some 22 shells myself.
