Actually, yes they can - if you are inside the store, you have likely given an implied consent to search, or at the very least to detain you until the police arrive. Otherwise, they would never be permitted to stop and hold shoplifters.Next time the answer is "That is none of your business. Have a nice day." as you walk out. They cannot legally detain you. If they touch you it's assault. If they attempt to detain you it's unlawful imprisonment. I would never tell any WalMart employee that I have a CCW. All they can do is follow you in the parking lot and write down your license plate number and call the police. They will need something more than just you had a bulge under your jacket to get the police to look up your address and chase you down.
