L.B. the out of production S&W 845s and 945s would be way up on my list. I've owned several Colt Gold Cups between the '70s and recent 2000s. I wouldn't automatically, no pun intended, look to one of those as a fine target pistol. I had one 70-Series G.C. that was splendid as to both accuracy and reliability. It was as accurate as any pistol I've ever owned. The rest ranged between dismal and OK.
FWIW, I have a 20+ year old Baer HBNM pistol. It was guaranteed to shoot the standard 3" group at 50 yards. Mine came with a 10-shot target of a bit less than 2" at 50 Yds. I would think that a Baer, especially with the 1.5" guarantee, might satisfy most wanting a very accurate metal-framed target pistol at a reasonable price...
