Alan Gura at UW Law

Hey all. As some of you know, I attend the University of Wyoming College of Law (hence my unbearably self-indulgent username I'd change if I could). I was very excited to find out today that next week our chapter of the Federalist Society is hosting Alan Gura, of Heller and McDonald fame. He's giving a talk called Dead or Alive? The Future of Gun Control after Heller. If there's any interest here, I'll happily take detailed notes on the lecture and post a summary here.

I'd want to shake the man's hand and thank him for all his work on behalf of the Bill of Rights. I'll read your summary with thanks in advance.

Methinks you will be carrying the earnest thanks of the entire TFL community, sirrah! Please take notes and let us know, thank you! Recording might even be better, if allowed.

No problem, folks. One thing law school improves rapidly is note-taking, so I'll try to get a nice, comprehensive summary done. I'll also look into audiovisual options.

Pending tomorrow morning when I find out if this event is open to the public, I'll post the time, date, and place in this post in case anyone in the area (southeast Wyoming, northern Colorado, western Nebraska) wants to come out. Look for the 6'5" kid with glasses.

I checked with the front office and they said the event is open as long as there's a chair open.

The event is Tuesday, February 21st at 12:15 PM in Room 170 of the University of Wyoming College of Law.

Information about audiovisual still forthcoming. The only method I have is the video on my iPhone 4. I'll see if I can snag something better if it's allowed.

Due to closed roads and snow the event will most likely be pushed to March 20.

REPEAT, if you are planning on coming tomorrow, don't!

I have been watching the weather, and I knew I couldn't get to Laramie from the Idaho side. So it was no real surprise to hear that this event has been canceled.

As I just PM'd the OP, I had already planned on making the 2nd round of (Peterson) orals at the 10th Circuit on the 19th. Alan Gura will be there, arguing as amici for the SAF (among others).

Rescheduling for the 20th, when Gura is already in the area only makes sense.

For me, it would be a two-fer! Weather permitting, of course.

Would they allow you to video tape the talk?

I don't have a camcorder, but they may be recording it and if I can get a copy I will.

Confirmed rescheduled for March 20th due to wind gusts from 50-70 MPH and snowy highways.

Typical Wyoming February...
