Ak vs AR bang for buck

AR platform trumps the AK platform in all areas but $$$ and ease of use for the beginner IMO.

But there is just something about the AK that makes them soo much fun to shoot and collect.
 
Never looked at AK'S OR AR's as either or I own both & just pick up the one that fits the task at hand.Both are short fast & fun.:D
 
It doesn't matter which one you choose. You will end up owning (at least) one of each anyway.

I think I bought my first AK in 1988 and my first AR in 1990. FWIW, I've shot the AK way more than the AR. I don't hunt with either - so they are really just 100 yard plinkers at most - I can knock around the AK more without having to worry about it. The AR is an older SP1 Carbine which is in nice condition, so it just hangs out in my safe most of the time.

I know that this might not be the "technical" perspective you might be looking for - its just a perspective of how someone who liked both rifles at one time, bought both and over the course of 20+ years which one actually got more use.
