(AK) Tourist kills man that pointed gun at trooper

I believe corpse law pertains to zombies, does it not?

I wonder if the trooper corroborated the reported aspect of the incident that the now deceased guy was pointing a gun at the trooper and was shot then? If so, I can't see how there would be a problem. How does one have a duty to retreat when the life being saved via lethal force isn't their own and they have no control otherwise over the person who is endangered?

--assuming circumstances were as described.

The duty to reatreat only applied in AK when it could be done with "complete safety." That's such a wide exception the duty was almost never a real issue. You can't ride a bike down the road with complete safety, let alone retreat from a guy shooting at you.

In this case, it's theoretically possible that the shooter had an open and completely safe escape route. But unless that highly unlikely scenario presents itself the duty to retreat is moot--with or without the recent changes.

Re the salmon head--it's called "stink fish head", though the Yupik escapes me. Drinking fermented salmon heads accounts for a fair number of botulism cases here. And it doesn't end with fish heads, either.

http://www.phppo.cdc.gov/phtn/botulism/who/who.asp

Almost all cases of botulism in Alaska are associated with Native foods like

Fermented fish heads, also called "stinky heads"
Fermented fish eggs, also called "stinky eggs"
Fermented beaver tail
Fermented seal flipper
Fermented walrus flipper
Fermented whale

About every ten years or so Manley manages to have a nutcase blow a gasket.

I guess it was getting to be around that time again.
