Airsoft for training?

Airsoft machine guns are a riot.

My grandson had one 6 or 7 years ago.

We're still finding little yellow balls in the yard :D :D

He had one of the electric ones - - took forever to recharge the battery.

Unfortunately, the "real" gun I'm about to buy is a Bersa Thunder 9 Pro xt, so there aren't (to my knowledge) any guns like that one
Sure there is!--well---sort of.....

Pyramid Air carries way more of a selection than Midway - better prices too.
You'll have to check with them though and see if the ship out of the country.

BTW- Do you want an Airsoft or a BB gun?
Airsoft shoots plastic balls & isn't exactly the worlds most accurate thing.
(think min of barn side).
BB and pellet guns can bring a whole world of Olympic grade accuracy to your back yard, garage or basement.

Airgun Depot is your best source for the really accurate stuff. Olympic style air pistols are amazing machines that are far and away more of a precision projectile launcher than a rimfire or centerfire. (the cost is out of this world also!)

Berserker,
Living out in the sticks does have it's attraction.
Until you realize you're completely out of butter and beer.
Or need an emergency room right quick.

Hal, if you haven't tried some of the newer airsoft guns, you will be pleasantly surprised with the accuracy.
My latest one is a Colt licensed 1911 by KWA.
It will shoot 2 inch groups at 7 yards offhand, the max distance I have.

Argentina's gun policy.

I appreciate hearing about how it is in other countries if you have a hobby that involves shooting. Those high prices sound a lot like Australia too. Just read about Brazil, very restrictive for the types of guns you can have.

I am also a long time air gun enthusiast and I had a British guy on another format criticize me for owning airguns when Americans can legally own a 30-06 rifle, for example. I reminded him that when I have pest birds in the back yard I can safely and quietly use an air rifle, if I did so with the 30-06 police SWAT teams would be all over my house.

I may give CO-2 airguns another try after hearing about the success stories here. I used to have a Crosman single shot all steel pistol (CO-2), it held up just fine, I got tired of the drop in trajectory as the CO-2 cartridge weakened, but had fun for years shooting it.

In my experience, limited to one gas gun, airsoft guns are not accurate enough for practice on anything but a reduced-size "range", or at close range on full-sized targets (the gun is now almost 15 years old).
I've seen some airsoft matches from Japan, and they use scaled-down targets on a range that looks like a large table at waist height.
A buddy sets up miniature targets in his garage, and hunts them with electric subguns.
It sounds like fun.
I think the greatest value would be in drawing to the first shot, as your shot-to-shot recovery time will be different for the airsoft than for similar firearms, so extensive practice with the airsoft could throw off your timing.

Wilks, you can leave 2 miles out of town and shoot guns. I got another place 25 miles from a small town, 45 from Walmart, 100 miles to home Depot type store.

I choose to live my life independent.

I plan ahead. Lots of nuts and bolts on hand. I spend lots of time in the woods. Ya I may die out there. But I won't waste my life staying near an ER or butter.

I am.not scared.

I just can't stand the city. I am not dependent on people to take care of me. No one to take my leaves away. No high speed Internet line. No fire hydrant. I do pay for trash pick up at one place. Some dont.

I am not carrying a gun to put my trash out. That would sicken me.

I'll probably be further out at some point. Luckily around here, you can be 30 miles from town, and have a bar.

Oh, my...!
Too bad is isn't blowback...
So... make that TWO airsoft.:eek::D

Not sure. An airsoft, I guess?
My interest in accuracy is so I can learn not to jerk the gun while pulling the trigger. And, for what I read, guns like the one I posted above (and I guess the one you posted) are quite accurate up to about 10 ft or so, so that'd be good enough, I think.

Thank you all for the replies. :)

I can shoot my 1911 airsoft anywhere. My son and I practice on the porch all of the time and that certainly doesn't hurt.

But it is not a 22 nor a 357. But for daily plinking, why not?

A BB or pellet gun with decent sights will introduce you to acquiring a good sight picture, and perhaps teach you some trigger control.

Shooting airsoft isn't shooting a firearm. Start with a .22 rimfire.

Simunition is better, but Airsoft is more accessible for sure. Shooting is just like any other skill: You can't get proficient without learning applications. Somebody that trains in boxing for 10 years without ever sparring in the ring is always going to lose to the boxer that's trained dedicatedly for 2 years and sparred every week. Obviously with shooting it's more difficult to find opportunities to train for force on force, but something like Airsoft is a good way to go so long as you have the training to go with it (slicing the pie, ready positions, etc...)

Airsoft might help familiarize you with the handling of a particular gun and would be fine for action drills or the like.

A good, accurate, pellet/airgun will make you a better Marksman.

Thank you all.
Simunition would be awesome, but I doubt anybody would be able to convince the idiot Argentinian politicians to let that kind of stuff get in the country. It'd require a much higher collective I.Q. than what's available here...
