As for cleaning the .177, if a rod is hard to find, just get a suitable diameter brass or steel rod at the hardware store.
That's all I've used for years, just with a small piece of rag around it.
Air guns really don't need much cleaning, not like firearms.
And since the rifling is quite shallow, too much rigorous cleaning can damage the barrel.
The theory is that they only need a mild clean when the accuracy falls off.
You may also find that .177 pellets are easier to find, locally.
