Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot & Green Dot Riflescope

Have you guys seen this new scope yet? Approx $160.00

It boasts at least 2,000 hrs of continuous use ... that's 83.3 days of continuous use. It comes with a 2x magnifier that threads into the eye lens which is a plus (doubt that it's worthwhile).

Looks and sounds sweet.
 
Well Aimpoint has been around for a while now and so has the technology. Not that this one is absolutely identical, but let's face it ... it's just a red dot. The clones, while they do work, they likely won't stand up to the test of time. Vortex is an American company, they designed it, it's built to their specification, and it's just made elsewhere. If it were constructed here then I’d bet the price would be nearly 3 times more.
 
I've learned that when it comes to price vs. quality in optics (and lasers) you get what you pay for. Save up and buy quality right away that way you don't have to spend more later once the cheaper ones break. Not always true as there is some quality stuff at cheaper prices out there....just not in optics and lasers.
 
Scope

Does Vortex not make the Leopold Mark IV target scopes, and the close combat scopes? I believe they do. I have seen overruns at gun shows with the Leupold blanked out and sold for less than $300. I may be wrong but I believe that Vortex was the company. I sincerely wish I'd purchased one. I came back after looking and they had sold every one marked Leupold. My new opinion is "you get what you pay for and sometimes you get less". Many are trafficking on their name in todays market. I stole this quote somewhere and think it's accurate.
 
It's new. The company evidently has a very good reputation and quality products.

TOO MANY people think that if it's not the most expensive then it's :barf:. I know that quality products are not cheap, but TOO MANY people lost track of what the value of a dollar is.

Paying 100s of dollars for some sun glasses is fine for some people ... but I'm sure not paying that much for them. Paying the extra dollar per gallon for premium gas is not MY priority (I don't value it). Chargin $100-$200 for a scope mount is price gouging. Paying over $400.00 for a red dot is not MY idea of a decent deal regardless if the military uses it or its so called quality.

"Ya get what ya pay for" sounds a lot like 'If it's not the most expensive it's junk'.

There are plenty of high quality optics to be had that are not the most expensive.

There are plenty of high quality mounts to be had without breaking the bank.

start naming names and specific things. :)

I'm one of the ones who will spend the extra for a quality named item with a good track record over one that doesnt have one.

If I had back all the money I spent on the cheaper stuff, I'd have enough for a couple more Aimpoints and their mounts. I got tired of buying "junk" at any price and started buying stuff that was made to be used and abused, not just look like it. Guess what, havent had a breakage or failure since. It might cost more, but its cheaper and less aggravating in the long run. ;)
 
yup...

i cant afford to buy cheap stuff.

i dont know how many times i bought cheap just to turn arround and pony up for the "overpriced" item i should have bought in the first place.

i'll pay $200 for a mount...$400+++ for an optic.something i can trust my life to even under hard use...and my grandkids can as well.

btw-my $120 Ray-Bans are a thing of beauty.unreal clarity and so comfortable i forget im wearing them.i probably wasted 3x that on cheap junk that i never wore more than half a day.:cool:
 
Glasses

Your $120 Rayban's would do well to have cost $8.00 at the very most. The mark up in any type of vision wear is beyond the pale, almost beyond belief.
 
then all of those $8 (or $10-$20 for that matter) sunglasses should have been free....because they're not even in the same realm.

clarity in the lenses or comfort.
 
Buddy if that is what it takes to make you feel better about yourself ... go for it. You do not need to justify your urges to purchase overpriced insignificant little luxuries for yourself.

Evidently the comment about the sunglasses struck a nerve with you or something. Don’t be so sensitive it’s bad for your mojo.

I don't think that anyone can sit there with a straight face and tell me that a Nikkon scope which is just a tube with crosshairs and lenses cost more to make than a camera from the same company with apetures shutters electronic parts and a much more sophisticated lens system.:barf: IMHO

Pretty much how everything is, thats just how it works, unless you cut out the middle men and get things right from the wholesaler. Most everyone adds 100% give or take, to what they paid. Thats why you can get some good deals on the internet, some arent so greedy and only get you for 70% and sometimes less. :)

I almost always buy stuff like this off the web and save a bunch. You may get 100 hits on a search that are within a buck or two price wise, and then you get one or two who are selling the exact same item for $20, $50 or more off. I got one Aimpoint from GG&G as a package deal with one of their cantilever mounts and got both for about $50 more than the Aimpoint alone. The mount cost about $175 by itself.

You dont always have to pay top doallar if your willing to search a little.

i just thought it was another good example of getting what you pay for.

it has nothing to do with "feeling better about myself.":rolleyes:

its about trusting my gear and not trying to convince myself that i somehow came out better buying junk.
 
btw(i was in a hurry with the last post)-if you're just saying that alot of things are overpriced relative to what they cost to make...you'll get no argument from me.

my point is that they're often worth the difference you pay over obviously inferior items...they are to me anyway.

when im buying gear that i may need to depend on for mine and/or my families lives...i like to know that it can hold up to decades of hard use and function properly when i need it to.

not to harp on the sunglasses but...

i like sunglasses that dont distort everthing as if im looking through a bubble and that dont leave irritated red marks on the bridge of my nose and above my ears...if i have to pay $100+ to get that(which has been my firsthand experience),i will.

if that makes me a jerk in some peoples minds?...

i'll be sure to toss and turn all night worrying about that.;)
 
Glasses

I made the $8 comment as my favorite pair of prescription eyeglasses cost me about $8. I have eyeglasses from local Opthamolagist/Optometrist that cost several hundred dollars (no line bi-focals/solar tint/Titanium Frames). Clark Howard on radio suggested Zenni Optical which I then ordered from. I've now ordered 11 pair for my family. The Most expensive with every option and Titanium frame (same as my approx. $500 glasses) was substantially less than $100, about 1/6 the cost locally. I also ordered a couple pair for back up. One of those was a pair of "Ben Franklin" style, alloy frames, single vision for $8. That pair of glasses is great!! and is now my favorite pair. So based on the prices from Zenni Optical I'd say Raybans are less than $8. I don't think it's possible to spend a $100 on any pair of glasses through them, even with the most complex prescription and exotic frames. They are the best value I've encountered in my life.
