If you had my experience of meeting up with five ferral dogs in a wilderness area who were starving and thought I looked like dog food you would quickly change your mind about a mouse gun.
Skeeter, if you drop one, does it suddenly look like dog food to the other mongrels, or are you still numero uno on the menu?

Much as I like my "mouse gun," I'd opt for a .357 wheelgun for wilderness hiking.

Here in Tucson I've worn long pants about 6 days this year. I deal with a fair amount of customers each day from collage kids to old farts (I'm getting close to that). There's just not a lot of places to hide a cc pistol wearing shorts and a company logo polo shirt tucked in (Blackberry and medium size keyring on my belt). I'm in & out of the office doing a fair amount of maintenance as well as paperwork.

This said a small, light, mouse gun in a wallet holster in my back pocket sounds better than trying to fit the PF9 in it. Front pocket would be OK but I carry an automatic knife in each one of them along w/car keys, etc.

Wonder if there is really that much difference in a 380 vs a P32?

Try a Kimber Ultra Carry II ... 3-inch barrel, 25 oz empty, 8 rds of .45; with a good holster and belt you won't even know it's there after a bit ... I love mine ...

I carry a 'mouse gun' most of the time because:
1-It is light
2-It is easy to pack
3-I can put it anywhere, pocket, coat pocket or small holster
4-The .380 ACP may not be the most desireable caliber, but it is better than throwing rocks beacuse you left your bigger boomer home.
5-I have a Kel-tec P3AT and it has been reliable
6-I like to shoot Mice! LOL

i dont see how you full sized gun guys do it!? i cant imagine lugging a 4" revolver, or 1911, around in my pants.

You mean like these? :D :p

Actually, most of the time I carry a 2" version of the 4" S&W Model 15 pictured above.

I "do it" with a 1.5" Dual-Layer Bullhide Belt from "The Beltman"

This is how it is done. I love my beltman bullhide belt, it was the best $70 or so bucks I've ever spent on gear. The belt is probably even more important than the holster, IMO.

Counterbalancing is also important; put as much other stuff on the opposite side from the gun as possible.

The primary reason I carry a fairly large handgun is not because I am looking for more "power"; I am quite satisfied with the pentrating power of the .38 +P 158 grain LSWCHP from my little J Frame S&W 642, and I suppose it just fits at the upper end of the "mouse gun" class. I prefer carrying larger guns simply because I shoot them far better than tiny autos like the Kel Tecs. I am willing to put up with a bit more discomfort (to me) to carry a gun that I am sure I am less likely to miss with, God forbid I ever have to use it.

I shoot my S&W 642 reasonably well. Sometimes I pocket carry it as my primary, especially if I'm late for an appointment and don't have time to belt up one of the big guns, or if I'm just tooling around the house all day. I've got a 12 gauge pump nearby at home anyway.

I carry a Sig P220 Carry 45 ACP with the Viridian X5L laser in a 5.11 tactical waist pouch.

Should the day ever come that I need to draw it in defense of myself or my family the BG will not be able to miss the fact that he's about to have a bad day. I want the size of my gun and the twinkle of the bright green laser to create fear and hesitation and the strobing light to throw my opponents aim off.

I never wish to use any of the tools that I carry but if given no other alternative I want every advantage and I want to instill fear in the BG (if it ever gets to this point)as it creates its own advantage.

A mouse gun or bug gun certainly would be easier to carry but it might not create the mental shock one might need or want and it certainly wont create the big holes that might save your life or that of your loved ones. Less shots needed = less possibility that someone gets hit by a stray or off target round.
