Hee hee hee, Oppossum's ...

Sorry for the late reply, been out of town. Slide velocity is much higher on my 10/22 and Mark II with the 60 gr SSS than with conventional 40 gr .22 lr. I believe the higher slide velocity is what caused my extractor failures. Maybe its just my guns, MilesTeg has used it without problems. Even if you do break extractors they are very easy to replace. It seems I'm the only one having keyholing past 30 yards too, operator error perhaps?

Kerth,

No problems with breakage(repeatedly knocking on wood) but I will admit to Keyholing. I have noticed it at even shorter distances with the MK II and at 30 yards with the 10/22 (16 inch barrel). My Marlin 39A seems to hold far better but it has a looong barrel.

Maybe the rifle twist is not enough to stabilize the heavier bullets but is fine on the 30 - 40 grainers. I have not yet bought a Ciener conversion for my AR but with the 1 in 9 twist that might help it. Just a thought.

Mine Keyholed, too

I fired only 3 rounds from my 22/45, 5" slabside (or 6?).

At SEVEN yards, one of my shots seemed to be a keyhole, but since I was shooting at a piece of paper with no backing, I wasn't sure. Maybe with a pistol length tube I'm getting yaw?

The SSS rounds are very easy to suppress. I have shot them out of Bolt action rifles and they can be made to sound like a BB gun. The penetration of its 60 grain bullet is much better than the standard .22 round as well.
