Advice on 2 handguns

A year ago I would have said get similar guns. After spending many hours at the range and trying many different guns, I'd be inclined to say "get what you want". The basic skills translate no matter what the platform is and the nuanced skills are going to be specific to each specific gun anyway.

If you get two different types of guns you'll have a little extra spice to your range trips.

Heck, if I had to do everything over again, I might have put off getting a 9mm CZ and picked up a SW617 instead. I just can't get the dollar signs out of my mind with the centerfire. The Ruger Mark III gets 90% of my shooting time.

How about a DA convertible H&R 676? Mine cost about $200 last year on Gunbroker.

H&R also made a ton of 9 round DA .22 LR-only revolvers. They're affordable and serviceable.

The 676 below is a very serious tack driver.

I've had great success with my CZ 75 and added Kadet kit. Both have been amazing and get the most use at the range. The Kadet slide eats anything I've fed it.

You could do the same route with a used Sig as well, but I find my 220 to have a rather high bore axis and more difficult to shoot accurately.

If you want a 22 with some real, unabashed fun...get a new Walther P22.

To keep your ammo costs down I would recommend a good .22 / and 9mm as well.

The problem is - you aren't really going to find many guns that really feel the same in .22 / 9mm - unless you get into a conversion kit / where you replace the top end of the gun in 9mm / so it will fire .22's . I have one for a SIG 226 - and its a good kit - but its expensive.

Sig makes a conversion kit for their 226 models / you can find them for 1911's chambered in .45 acp - but not for 1911's chambered in 9mm.

I would probably suggest 2 guns:

1. maybe a good used .22 like a High Standard or something - they made some very good guns over the years.
2. In a 9mm - I prefer a 1911 / but if you want a DA/SA weapon probably a Sig 226. Glock model 34 has a decent trigger so its another option.
