advice on 10/22

I can load 15 in my Marlin a lot faster than I can 10 in my Ruger and I don't even use a speed loader. I've never seen a tube mag wear out and I've got one Marlin that's 30 years old if it's a day and a Stevens made in the 40's. Both are going strong. Maybe your Ruger is something special but mine and the others I've shot do ok but not nearly as good as the Marlin. Not trying to argue, just sayin.

ruger 22

just as a side note, I just read somewhere that ruger is coming out with a good quality higher capacity magazine for the 10-22.

They came out with a pricey 25 round one earlier this year.

What wears out on a tube mag? The have replacement springs/followers...

Just to be clear, most of us think you should let your wife choose your handbag and shoes, as well as her own rifle. Most husbands can't successfully coordinate their accessories.

well of course i would let her pick one out,but she is new to rifles so i figure i would narrow some down for her-giving her advice to pick her own.
i might pick up a stainless as i still dont think like the painted recievers.
all good points everyone- i will also look at the marlin.

Your money, your call !!

I personally do not have any issues with either the Marlin-60 or the 10/22. Throughout the years, I have owned more than my share of each. .... ;)

As I have stated before, I doubt that I will every buy another Marlin-60 but I'm always on the lookout for the older 10/22's. I just like how they look adn function. I also like to tinker with them. A shooting buddy of mine, owns about two dozen. My count is down to three and they serve me well. They are all capable of shooting better than I. .... :)

Be Safe !!

if not a 10/22,what other modern conventional looking semi auto .22 is a decent shot?

For the money, as mentioned, the Marlin 60 beats the 10/22 every time in the accuracy department.

The only accurate 10/22s I have ever seen were those where everything was replaced with after market stuff from other companies and the gun now cost more than an Anschutz

I'm not trying to open a fresh new debate here but I'd like to address a point you marlin guys have overlooked. First of all, its for his wife who shot the 10/22 & liked it. Now she wants it. With all due respect to this man's betrothed, you won't change her mind now with facts & reason. Unless she is that 1 out of a million for whom logic applies, she'll soon have a 10/22. And that should be just fine because she'll be happy with it since she has already made up her mind about it. Make her get the marlin when she wants the ruger & she'll hate the marlin. This post is in no way meant to be derogatory to women. I'm just high-lighting some fundamental differences & doing my best to mask my underlying bitterness earned from years of being married to a woman who operates solely on emotion. Logic is out there. So is Pluto. Neither have any effect on the day to day.

ya know---your right!!
i could see her saying why did'nt you get the 10/22- even if 100 other rifles were made in the same plant with a different name. thats funny!!!
so i will get her a ruger and i will look at a marlin or even something different,i like options!!
