Active Military .. No Federal Taxes

I have to agree with Solitar, A place can be found for anyone in the wide variety of operations in the military. I don't agree with mandatory service, but for people who want to enlist there should be more allowances. I was turned down by the ARmy because I am half deaf, and have other health problems. I don't consider myself handicapped, I am just me, and this is life. I know that there are Jobs in the military that I can do just as wel as anybody else if I am just given the chance to do them.

I wasn't in the military? I had a military ID, had to abide by the UCMJ, got sent to a Navy school, etc, but I wasn't in the military? Learn something new everyday. [/sarcasm]

HukeOKC, I am assuming that you voluteered.

You are correct, I never served.

When you signed up, you chose that path, and
the military way, is a well known thing amongst the general public.

So it is not like you didn't know.

I worked construction because that is what I know, if I could have chosen an easier life
I sure as hell would have done it!.

For the 1st 10 years of my marriage I had no medical for my kids, I just couldn't afford it. But, by the grace of God none of us ever needed serious medical care.

My point is that taxes must be assesed and collected equally, PERIOD!.

The whole tax system is sh*t

The basic income tax is no different than what happens when a public servant gets paid.

I pay all year and some times I get money back and sometimes I don't, so what is different.

Remember this, guys, the military paid no income tax until the early 50's when a Republican Military background President got it changed. Name of "Ike".

Waterdog. It just doesn't make any sense. You are putting money right into a GI's pockets and then taking it right back out again. Our military should be in a position where it actually has to turn people away because so many want in. The US military should not have to beg and plead for even the most basic levels of personel readiness.
It simply doesn't make sense to further weaken their position with taxation. It also doesn't make sene to weaken the positions of vital government jobs with taxes that must be paid directly back to the source. State workers must pay federal, federal workers must pay state, but neither should pay their employer. It just doesn't make sense. Of course not taxing so many of the already overpaid government workers(especially at colleges) would encourage people to all become government employees, so we'd need a system to limit government size, which we need for other reasons anyway.

Waterdog, that's what I'm trying to say too. It doesn't make sense. I even said when I was in, that I wish that they would stop taking the taxes that go back to where my pay comes from and just pay me less. If I owe you $20.00 and I give you $15, then I tell you that I'll keep the other $5 until the end of the year, you'd be a little aggrivated too that I didn't just give you the rest of it so you could do what YOU want to do with it. It all comes from the same pot.

You are right I knew what I was getting into as far as deployments and field time. I have no problem with them keeping me well trained for combat. I was one of those idiot 18 year olds that listened to whatever the "nice recruiter" told me. One of those was that I would have time to get some college while I was in. I got to take a couple of classes but I have a long way to go yet. I also had no idea that they would put familys with children in homes that were falling apart and roach infested. There are some really sick people that live in these homes and they leave behind all their "friends" for you to live with once you move in. And those are the conditions that I have a real gripe about.

I understand what you are thinking, that everyone should do their part, or at least that is what I have gathered from your posts here. But you also have to understand that if it comes from the same place, why bother with all the processing.

We got our taxes done, electronically filed, for free. Guess who pays for that...YOU. That should make you mad enough right there to see it the other way. The whole thing makes NO sense whatsoever.

I'm leary of separating the .gov status from the status of the general pop because it tends to breed sepratism although the taxes imposed on all of us are unjust. If we class .gov employees above regular people it will just open the gates for more abuse that will be supported by a good number of .gov employees because they will be on the receiving end. If the .gov would not mutate this into something bad it would be a good idea but as with common sense gun laws they would just want more and more and the seperatist mentality it would breed in some of the .gov people make it a dangerous road.
