I think you made a great choice. I agree with the above poster who said that practicing with a S&W airweight is very uncomfortable. You're likely to practice a lot more with the Ruger. You can shoot .38 through those things all day (at least until your trigger finger gets sore). With the airweight, the web of your hand will be killing you.
In my opinion, the Smith is a dream to carry, but the Ruger isn't all that bad. I also think that these little .38s require a lot of practice. So enjoy it at the range as much as possible.
