About to buy. Need Advice. "If you could only have one" scenario.

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions.

I am now the proud owner of a 2 1/4" barrel Ruger SP101.

I have some Hornaday 125g FMJ Hollow Point .357's in her now but hope to make it to the range to fire some .38's first just to get used to shooting period.

Thanks again.

I think you made a great choice. I agree with the above poster who said that practicing with a S&W airweight is very uncomfortable. You're likely to practice a lot more with the Ruger. You can shoot .38 through those things all day (at least until your trigger finger gets sore). With the airweight, the web of your hand will be killing you.

In my opinion, the Smith is a dream to carry, but the Ruger isn't all that bad. I also think that these little .38s require a lot of practice. So enjoy it at the range as much as possible.

I bought a tan golf glove 25 yrs ago and cut off half of the trigger finger for use with checkered wood grips on my Colt 357s. You'll have to convince the pro shop guy you're left handed so he'll give you a right hand glove. It's still going strong and I wear it no matter what I'm shooting 'cause it keeps my salty sweat off the gun. They sell special lead weighted shooting gloves but I like my paper thin leather golf glove.

Smith's an excellent weapon, I have a 637 and it is easily pocketable ... only have had a Ruger .22 so can't comment on the one you're interested in, but the extra weight won't be fun in a pocket ...

Good idea using the glove, I may have to try that.

I've been carrying it in my front right pocket tucked inside a blackhawk pocket holster size 4. The holster breaks up the mold of the revolver but my whole pocket is a bit bulky. Weight hasn't really caused any issues yet and I think it's something I will get used to.

I have a SmartCarry holster on order so I'm looking foward to using it over this temporary pocket deal. I've read nothing but good things about the SmartCarry, I'll let you guys know how it's working out after a week or so.

Smartcarry, do they make those one size? I am looking one for a 92fs prehaps.

Good choice with the SP101.

I was stuck between the SP101/S&W 637 model. I am going with the sp 101 2inch barrel. Maybe later get the 637, but on a tight budget and want the "better" gun. Weight is really not a problem 12oz more. Good belt should not notice the difference. I rather get a S&W Mod 63 22lr (because I can afford to shoot 22lr lol) for $200 more than a model 637.:D
