about to buy a new gun (my first decent gun, and not the junk i already bought)

I own, or have owned in the past: Browning HP clone, Glock, 2 H&K USP's, Ruger, and Mauser semi's. Have had rangetime with Ruger P series, CZ, ParaOrd 1911, and Sigs.

All things considered, I liked the H&K and Glocks best. H&K for features and reliability, Glock for simplicity of use amd reliability. If either of those are out of your pricerange I would jump for a nice CZ, they are simply one of the best built firearms in the world, just without the price and media recognition of the rest. After CZ it would be the Ruger series, great quality (for the money).

The worst I owned was the Browning clone, it was decent for what it was but wore out in about a year and was relegated to the paperweight collection.

I have a CZ-40 that is well made and reliable. It was my first CZ and won't be my last. Will be purchasing a 75b in 9mm soon. These are very good pistols at an excellent price. georgestrings

May I recommend the SIG Sauer P225. What a lovely gun!

In my stiff-upper-British-lip opinion, the P225 is one of the finest 9MM semi-automatic handguns ever produced. I wouldn't part with mine.

Pitty I can only shoot the bloody thing when I visit the U.S. of A.

The SIG P22x series pistols are superb, but the street price will be nearly $200 more than the CZ. I have a CZ85 Combat and a SIG P220 - the CZ is a very good pistol for the money.

Get the CZ. Rugers are great (I've owned 4), buy CZ's are better guns and better buys, they also aren't as "chunky" as Rugers.

Ultimately, both will put bullets where you want them to go.

georgestrings re: CZ40

I am intereseted in purchasing a CZ40 and saw one at a gunshop. It had wooden grips and looked kinda like a Colt. I checked the CZ website but they didn't have a CZ40 listed. Does my description sound like your gun? Do they normally come with wooden grips?

Thanks
