A vote for American defeat...

Unfortunately, that about sums up your approach. If you can blithely consign our friends to their doom, our viewpoints might be incommensurable.

Well, that would be unfornutate. I don't have a "so what" attitude about those in that region NOW. Only about those who are fanatical and choose to remain to fight over idiocy after they've been offered a painless relocation.

Equally certain is they won't deliver it onto US soil. All we have to do is take all the personnel fighting and supporting in Iraq out and put them to work, along with SWAT teams enforcing victimles crime laws, inspecting 100%, rather than 5%, of incoming cargo and luggage.

Wrong. All borders are permeable, and ours will remain so despite the most outlandish of border protection plans. The economy couldn't survive 100% inspections due to the increased cost of goods that would result and the massive delays. Once you consider the possibility of corruption and the fact that much of our coastline will not be monitored under any stretch of the imagination, it becomes certain that someone can get a device through if they plan properly and develop the same kind of support network.

And backtracing the source of a weapon in order to nuke the offending nation is something they do in the movies. There is too much special nuclear material floating around to be able to say that someone who produced the material is responsible for what happened. Seriously. If the material is traced back to Savannah River or Oak Ridge, shall we nuke Washington? What about Moscow, if the material came from a Russian facility and was stolen years ago?

First, Greg Bell: I'm sorry that happened. I found it to be a discussion and didn't take anything personally. Maybe my warning is next:D

I don't know that this is true, but I'll buy it for the time being.

100% inspection would be FREE. We already pay the troops and the DEA.

Once you consider the possibility of corruption and the fact that much of our coastline will not be monitored under any stretch of the imagination,

Commercial airlines fly routes that add up to many many times our coastline constantly, and they make a profit doing it. I'm sure Boeing would be jumping for joy to develop and sell the monitoring aircraft for this purpose.

If decent people are evacuated and only nutcases are left to fight each other, that's not conducive to good planning, but I agree it's a bit of a risk until they kill each other off. Tell me, are you risk-free right now?

Well then we'd have to use some HUMINT rather than relying solely on ECHELON to determine, less importantly than the manufacturing plant, the identity of the nation making the decision to lend out one of its 10 or so extremely coveted atomic bombs.

Notice that none of this is rocket science (or is it rocket surgery?). I've purposely made my propositions in terms of general terms and old-fashioned technology. Throw America's undisputed technology into the processes of relocation, intelligence, nuclear material detection, and single-missile interception technology, and it just might be a workable plan.

Now, if EVERY SINGLE MOSLEM wants us dead, the plan won't work. But I don't think that's the case any more than EVERY SINGLE CHRISTIAN wants them dead.

I'm advocating moving the poor schmucks to a safe place and letting the LEADERS slug it out. I think you'll be amazed how peaceable leaders can become when THEY are the very persons taking the hits.

carrot and stick

This isn't appeasement. This is a carrot and stick approach.
The ONLY way this approach could be effective is when the murdering terrorist comes out from under his rock to eat the carrot, you beat him to death with a big stick.

The constitution is NOT a suicide pact.
