A small 9mm carry with a light trigger?

Thanks, but 1 "silly" question, please
I thank you all for your suggestions. I will look into the Shield and the Walther...the Wilson, if it costs anything like my CQB, is out of my price range.

Now, at the risk of getting people mad, what is the difference between a range gun and a carry gun in terms of the trigger pull? Some suggest 5 -6 for a carry weapon, but 3.5 for a range gun.

Why the difference? Safety? How?

Thanks again to all.

Yes safety. The lighter the trigger on a particular firearm the greater the possibility of a negligent discharge due a startled response while undress stress/in great fear state causing the finger on the trigger to move as hand tightens reflexively. I know everyone trains to keep the finger off the trigger until ready to fire but in real life high stress/fear situations that has often been seen to not be the case even with highly trained individuals from reports I have seen from very credible sources.

Though modern pistols have built in drop safeties and other non manual safeties with a very light trigger there is potentially greater risk of discharge if the pistol received enough force where inertia overrides the safety mechanisms.

In particular a pistol with a trigger lightened significantly from factory specifications may, depending on the circumstances, also lead to problems if one ever has to use their pistol in a self defense shooting. If not in criminal court then possibly in civil court. See the link below for more details.

Springfield EMP, Sig 938 or a Ruger LC9s. The S&W Shield I am okay with the stock trigger but if you feel it needs help then as mentioned put an Apex kit in it.

I'd also recommend the PPS. I haven't tried the M2 but the original has a good trigger right out of the box. It handles 9mm very well for a gun of its size. Speaking of size, there are three different factory magazines with different grip extension lengths. This makes it a very versatile gun.

If you aren't familiar, you might want to try the paddle release on the original. It didn't take long to get used to and I found that I prefer dropping magazines with my trigger finger.

I would be OK with a light trigger in a carry gun so long as it had a manual safety or it was DA/SA with a heavy first pull. There are some very compact 1911s in 9mm that will fit this bill (they're pretty heavy though), and maybe 1 or 2 oddities out there I can't think of.

As to lightening a DAO pistol like the Khar or Glock to 3.5lbs... There are a couple of issues. First off the only active safety mechanism in most DAO pistols is a long, heavy trigger pull. If you lighten this too much, it will be susceptible to NDs from startle reflex, accidental pulls during draw or reholster, and other "Murphy's law" issues. I wouldn't want a 3.5lb first trigger pull with no active safeties even on a range gun, personally.

Second, bringing a DAO pistol down to a trigger pull that light inherently demands that you lighten the firing pin (in striker fired) or main (in hammer fired) springs to lighten the force that cocking applies on the trigger. This will inherently lighten the force applied to the primer, and is likely to lead to light primer strikes... Making the pistol inherently less reliable.

I'm a revolver guy and was looking for a nice small 9mm with a decent trigger for carry. I tried many different guns and just couldn't like any of the triggers. Then I tried the Ruger Lc9s when they first came out and bought it on the spot. I've put over a thousand rounds through it with 100% reliability. Easy to conceal and carry and I do like the fact it has a safety. Also very accurate and for me with a rubber sleeve type grip cover pretty comfortable to shoot.

5Whiskey, I previously spent some time looking into the DA/SA route. You can see the thread linked below. There are some small ones but nothing on par with some of the guns being discussed here.

As far as DAO goes, I'm a big fan of the LCR's trigger. While there is a 9mm version that takes moon clips, it's still a revolver and possibly too large for some people here. I really like the 6-shot LCR 327 and find that it carries well in a pocket holster with casual pants.

My Kahr P9, prior to my acquisition, has had some kind of a trigger job done. The breaking weight is about 4-5 lbs. It does however retain the long revolver type length of pull. I like it this way. Safe for carry but still a reasonable pull.

The seasons drive my choices of carry. Fall and winter clothinig brings out my 1911 (45acp). Tail end of spring brings out my mid sized 9mm as less clothing makes hiding the FS 1911 a chore. Summer brings out the 38 spcl w/ 1-7/8 barrel usually stuffed in a pocket. It's backwards logic as summer brings out the crazies when I should be carrying a bazooka w/ an ankle tank and I am carryiing a 38 spcl.
