A second gun just like the first?

I don't have any duplicates. I try not to even duplicate the purpose of a certain gun, but that is unavoidable and I've done that with a few of mine.

I like to cover the essential bases:

Battle Rifle
Scoped Bolt Gun
Full Size Battle sidearm
CCW/backup sidearm
Longer Range sidearm
Close quarters shotgun
Longer range shotgun

I don't have "safe queen" or "store next to gold chain and Brut cologne" category. :o All of my mine are for shooting.

Of course, I don't mind different calibers of the same general type of gun being duplicates since the caliber has its own niche. But two of the exact same thing seem pointless to me until after I've got at least one of everything I want. And I'm not there yet..

Not I. While the pragmatic argument for 2 of the same gun is strong, there are so many guns I would like that if I have the money for another gun, it is something new!

I've got two J.C. Higgins Model 50s, both in 30-06. The Model 50 is an FN commercial Mauser action with a chrome lined barrel by High Standard. Stone reliable, extremely well made and very accurate. I was so happy with the first one that when I ran across another at a gun show I had to admire it. It was late Sunday afternoon and the seller made an offer I couldn't refuse. So I didn't.

One is sighted in for 150 grain Winchester Power Points for deer and the other for 180 grain Nosler Partition Federal loads for elk / moose.

I just received my second glock 17. It was a great price and I can leave one home and keep the second sown in FL while I'm down here for the winter. Also looking for another p22 to need down here.

I almost ordered a pair of walther PPS in 9mm with consecutive numbers but it was too much of a premium even for a nut like me:)

Identicals for a different reason

I have two Glock M-23s and two M-27s.

The reason is for consistency in self defense use. I have the M-23s staged at two locations in the house and one M-27 in my spare vehicle and carry one M-27.

I have the advantage of magazine interchangeability (albeit one way, the M-23 can be used in the M-27, not vice-versa).

I also have the consistency factor in operation and controls.

I also have two P-226s...one is LNIB and one I bought to rebuild. I ran about 10,000 rounds of Wolf 9mm (metal case) through the latter one. I took it apart and looked for signs of abnormal wear and could find none. I know, that's anecdotal evidence...but twas fun! Rebuilding taught me a lot of hands on gunsmithing, too.

On a totally unrelated thought...the only gun you regret is the one you sold, so, by logical extension, buying two of any gun means twice the satisfaction.

I have a fair number of handguns, but I don't have the money to double up when there are so many interesting guns on the market that I want to own ... for me, one of each has so far been sufficient ...

If you aren't a two-gun carrier, there really isn't a lot of reasons to have two exact guns but there are some.

I have two 627-2 PC's. Both manufactured the first year of production for the 8 shot, 1997. One is my carry piece, the other is my practice piece. I shoot the hell out of one and the other every once in awhile. I pull the custom grips and the front interchangeable front sight off the carry piece and onto the practice piece when its time to practice.

To carry both would be a little too much weight. However, in a perfect world, I can see carrying two of the exact same gun. Your first reload would be the New York reload and then after that, all of reloads would be uniform for either gun.

Different calibers, different sizes, same platform...

I have 2 G17's, a Gen1 & a Gen3 I picked up for $350 in LN condition. Couldn't pass it up. Was going to flip it but it had the best trigger I've ever encountered in a Glock. So I'm keeping it.

A local gunshop was selling Ruger P-95's for $225 with two ten round mags each.

Bought two-liked them both-sold them to use the money elsewhere.

Miss them both.

Sort of.

I have 3 5" 1911s and 1 4" 1911. They all look different, but they are 1911s.

I have 3 9mm Hi Powers, 2 of which are about identical, made in the same year. However one of those will be upgraded with C&S sear/hammer/thumb safety soon. Later, I will be doing that to the other one as well.

My two GP100s are almost in this club, but one is 4" and one is 6".

So, I guess I am not quite doing what you asked about, but close.

Does my G22 count if I throw in the .357 sig barrel and call it a G22/31? Or throw in a 9mm conversion barrel and call it a G17/22/31?
