A scary question.

I believe the US is done fighting 'official' wars for atleast another generation.

Not until we shake this PC crap will we have incentive enough to fight an 'official' war.

IMHO, China is and will not be for some time, any threat to anyone other than India. I believe those to are made for each other.

Though i'm quite concerned about the Israel/PLO situation, i believe it is small and will be highly contained.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

That whole area is DAMNED complex.

Some points:

* China and Russia are NOT allies. Far from it.

* Taiwan is a distraction, I think. China is experiencing internal problems, and they use the Taiwan issue in "Wag The Dog" fashion. Not just politics per se; AIDS is spreading and the gov't hasn't done squat about it despite a lot of illegal trade in blood for sale. People have been buying iodized salt that's no such thing, other forms of fraud and corruption are widespread, there's tension in Hong Kong, military spending is WAY too high.

And to date, China can't float the red army to Taiwan. They can walk it all the way to Moscow though...

* There's two big pieces of untapped natural resources around there: the offshore oil reserves near Vietnam is liable to be a conflict area.

But more importantly, there's SIBERIA. Take all the oil, gold, minerals, timber and other goodies in Alaska and triple it. And Russia isn't in any economic shape to exploit it. China is absolutely slavering over that stuff. And the big Japanese construction companies know they'd get major contracts - they're active in Siberia on a very small scale already.

There's a lot of connections between Japanese foreign-operation construction companies and the Yakuza. (Don't ask how I know that!) Japanese construction companies have been linked to bribery in weird projects all over southeast Asia, Africa and elsewhere.

Picture a war with China versus Russia, financed by Japan (officially or otherwise). There's a freakshow for ya.

There's lots of other nasty $hit that could happen...North Korea is totally unpredictable (not to mention crazy) and probably has a few nukes.

I see the rationale for a lot of the arguments. Any good reason why W has not mentioned the poor preparation and the handing over of the nuclear goods to China?

Well, personally, my feeling is, something will happen before 2040, weather it be a foreign "squable" or domestic. Something is in the air. If it happens on the foreign theater w/ 5 years, I just might end up getting "drafted" if it's big. Might be a little old....On a domestic thing, looks like there goes my retirment if "___ hits the fan". All we can do is hope/pray for the best.

Of all I've heard about other forms of government/systems, the "Good Ol' US of A" has the best....even w/ our foul ups (in office).

Maybe if enough time goes by most of the old hard line commies will die off and war can be averted.

Seen this from Former CJCOS Admiral Thomas Moore.
Created a major base in the bahamas about 70 miles from florida. Runways with the ability to handle the heavies of military aircraft.
Taken operational control of panama canal.
Allied with russia.
China is the only major power in the world that still has an offensive biological weapons program.

As to nukes that is easy for them to take as it would be their best way of population control. Have no idea if all this is true but it doesnt look very good.

I think Santanta has the ticket.
How many have seen the flick from the '80's with Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, called, "Red Dawn"?

For those who haven't, Mexico is in alliance with Cuban, Soviet backed insurgents who use commercial liners that overfly the US to introduce paratroopers through the Central portions, thereby splitting the country in two.

If I remember during the movie, there's mention that Cali has seen very heavy shelling, landings by foreign nationals. And I think, the East Coast the same story, but from different nationalities, presumably Soviet.

The thing here, is that NATO, bows out. Deciding to see what happens here. It seems they'd had enough war in a century.

While this has nothing to do with the original topic, it does place some emphasis on the homefront in the event of a major conflict. In this case, we are the major conflict.
Of interest, is that the first thing the Cuban commander did after establishing a command base, was to obtain ownership record of firearms from the local Sheriffs office, and hardware store. Thereby neutralizing any further resistance efforts by any "subjects".

Thanks for all of your reply's. I still belive that in under 15 years we will have a major conflict( War) with China. Everything seems to be argued out here except my thoughts on W's lack of comment on the issue. I belive that he is avoiding(sp?) the issue because the "people" aren't ready to realize that there is a problem. We like to think that we are in control and are ignoring the fact that Russia, Korea, China, and many others are there with us. I think that a wake up call is on the way.

JCH do you think bush wants to be the one with the bad news? You know what they do to the messenger? They would label him as a paranoid hard line cold war supporter and a man of no understaning. Plus no one wants to hear any of this as it would upset their perfect worlds they all have planned. Hell as long as the stock market is good who cares about any other damn thing. Thats their view on it.

Everyone seems to have said all that can be said, except this: why don't we call them Red China anymore?

Seems that Pat Buchanan and I are the only ones still using that phrase. It's still accurate, isn't it?

Hopefully we will have the common sense to fight the next war correctly from the first minute . They are represented in Long Beach ? GONE !! They have a base in the Bahamas ? GONE !!! ( Bite me Tony , this is war . They are in Mexico ? Saturate bomb the nearest 300 miles of Mexico .
All this on the first day .
All subs launch half of their warheads on strategic targets in China . Long range bombers drop nucleur bombs on the rest of China . Most of the U.S.M.C. deploys to Australia and India .
All this on the second day .
The Soviets are put on notice that ANY effort on their part to participate in the hostilities will cause the fleet of subs to launch the rest of their arsenal onto them while on the way to get more . The 101st and 82nd are airlifted to Germany to back this up . The rest of the U.S.M.C. is deployed to the Phillipines to complete a pincer movement against the Chinese army after tremendous strafing by every fighter we can get there from HI and off flattops .
All this on the third day .
We take no prisoners , we eat our dead AND we do not stop until we have put the bayonet to the enemys throat .
All of the operations will be conducted by COMPETENT MILITARY personnel . Any interference by politicians will be viewed as treachery and be dealt with accordingly .

SASS AMERICAN LEGION NRA GOA

Gee, Tom, those of us living here in the west U.S. are really looking forward to the glorious sunsets all that activity will spawn. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about all that excitement ... ;)

I agree, if you go to war, you go to war. But, geez ... I sure don't look forward to the results of your scenario.

Maybe I should be looking for vacation property in Minnesota? ;)

Live and let live. Regards from AZ

I see some form of armed skirmish with BIG RED but do not know the scale of it.

I always wonder why China said "It is a wise move for us to go Open Trade"

And also if we built a National Missile Defense system they stated that they would have to point MORE nukes at us.

My question is WHY? We are doing it to protect ourselves. By China saying that they will point more nukes if we try to protect ourselves only tells me that China wants a rumble with the United States and would rather us not be able to aptly defend ourselves!!!!!

Edit= I nominate Paratrooper as a military advisor to our armed forces. Sounds like you know how to "open up a can!" :D

Paratrooper, why don't we all just enable our force fields, grab our pulse rifles and then wade through them John Woo style?

There will be a war with China at some point, but I bet it will be a really confused and screwed up war that takes place over some ground that neither China or the US really cares about like some wars have been *cough*Vietnam*cough*

If you look at Chinese history they have never been an expansionist nation. They are not likely to try to annex India or Vietnam, or to try to attack the U.S.

But they have been willing to use force to bring in areas they regard as traditionally Chinese, such as Tibet, and perhaps Taiwan in the future. It could happen, but it's certainly not inevitable.

China's been planning on an eventual war with us for years. They're just biding their time until the US has a final mass freak out which renders it ineffective in global affairs.

Anyone who does not look at Red China without being alert and suspicious is either ignorant, naive, insane, or a member of the the Republican or Democratic parties.

RHC, the Chinese have a belief that they are the superior race, within the asian community and without. I've been to China, and I know this to be the case. There is no doubt that the Chinese Communist Party plans to rule the world. The war is inevitable. Here's a few highlights...

1. Free trade allows the chinese to amass significant wealth.

2. Poor Russia sells as much high tech weaponry as China can afford.

3. Taiwan says something or does something stupid, and China informs the US to stay out of it or a missle attack is on its way to the US. Don't doubt the pres, whoever it is, will stay out of this.

4. Next Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, India...get the picture?

5. We've already lost this one, folks. Traitors in the current administration have given high-yeild nuclear weapon plans to a company with the manpower, resources, and lack of PC correct garbage to produce a war machine we've never seen before.

6. Learn Mandarin Chinese. You'll need it.

7. After 20 years of breeding a population with an overwhelming excess of males to females, thanks to the "one child per family" policy, with millions of female fetuses aborted or "miscarried", China declares war on the US to provide new, willing wives for millions of horny, young Chinese men.

Keep your powder dry, folks.

If you thought the last century was a bloody damn mess, you ain't seen nuthin' yet :(

Hmmm, most everyone is missing the point here. Red China has the cheap labor. Taiwan has the distribution channels and contacts. One can't get by without the other. For now.
I would honestly worry more over a war WITH Taiwan, than OVER Taiwan. The middle man always hates getting cut out.
