A "No gun" world

44AMP has a good point. If the second amendment gets thrown away on the basis it only referred to a militia that Congress disbanded in 1903 then NO ONE including local police have a "right" to be armed. The federal Government could simply impose a ban on all guns. We might end up with a federal police force.

I wonder what a 100 lb. lady facing a 200 lb. rapist thinks of a no gun world.

Or a 94 year old vet in a walker facing two or three street thugs think of a no gun world.

NEWS FLASH!!!

NEWS FLASH: ISIS and AQAP both support the U.S. goal to become "no gun" entity.

In 1995 in Saudi Arabia, when asked about an ideal world, one then associate of Osama bin Laden said they wanted to go back and live as Mohamed did in the 7th century under Mohammaden / Sharia law: no drugs (of any kind), cars, nothing from the 20th century.

When asked how they would keep order, he said with an incredulous look, with our AK-47's of course.

They're not giving up theirs, neither am I. MDA, where do you think this is going?

You've all said it so well.

I find the David vs. Goliath mention interesting.

David wasn't going to wrestle that big guy to the ground.

People today tend to only think of slings as the classic kid's slingshot, but a sling bullet, thrown by a slinger who knows what they are doing can rival some firearms for velocity and exceed some for mass at that speed.

David wasn't going to wrestle that big guy to the ground.

...and the Huns were smart enough not to meet the Romans on equal footing. They employed an asymmetrical recurve bow with which they routinely made 400-yard shots. The arrows were able to pierce a 1.5" block of wood and travel another 5 inches or so.

David wasn't going to wrestle that big guy to the ground.

a smaller guy has a better chance of beating a bigger unskilled guy on the ground rather than standing up

size and strength takes you a long way in boxing/kickboxing, but in grappling you are screwed if you meet a really skilled guy, regardless of how small he/she is

Funny about the ban on knives, back in the mid 90s, talking to two UK Police on horseback, just been on a parade.

What about this talk on knives I asked, after we chatted for a couple of minutes.

They both looked at my Folder. "Used for work, right?" Yes I said, that's fine then.

Banning knives and guns has proven to be impossible, even in prison. Might as well start working on banning humans.

America would not exist without the gun. America was built by the gun. Anyone who makes a living and benefits here by whatever this country has to offer owes it to the gun. Anyone who doesn't like it or wants to deny it, may leave any time.

The gun was inevitable when man threw the first stone to hunt or defend. Regardless of a constitution, it's a basic human right. Like breathing. And actually the United Kingdom does have a constitution which made provision for the RKBA... but the people are in the process of giving it all up.

Years ago a friend asked me if we all wouldn't be better off if we didn't have guns.

I asked him what keeps someone from breaking down his elderly mothers door and harming or killing her, all the perp would have to be is younger, stronger, meaner,or whatever. The thing that keeps that from happening is the possibility that she's armed and can defend herself.

We're all going to be elderly, disabled or somehow weaker someday, i.e. vulnerable.

Skans! Gasp!! Everyone knows, that with all that security, prison has to be the safest place in the world!:D

My point about David was that he was armed with better technology and able to defend himself against someone bigger and stronger.

I doubt he was familiar with modern wrestling moves being a young boy employed as a sheperd. Also, I was saying he would be able to get the armored man who was carrying a spear and a sword and a shield.

Instead he won using the technology that kept lions and wolves away from his sheep: the sling. That's what the gun does: it enables the weak to defeat the strong.

If there were no guns, there could be no wars or violence. You know, like the Roman Empire, Cain and Abel, King David, or those native Americans who all lived together peacefully before the evil white man brought his guns.

I'd imagine most of us here could go out in the garage, and build something that goes boom, and launches a projectile capable of killing a person in less than half a day.

You know, like the Roman Empire
Yep. An oligarchy in which personal safety was determined by money and influence. Heaven help those who didn't have it, or who weren't fortunate to live within a few days' march of the legions.

Of course, even when the legion showed up, one was lucky not to be robbed or worse. Trained warriors with better numbers and weapons tend to get what they want.

But hey, one can still take comfort in the fact that they didn't resort to something as callous as gun violence.

People, somehow equate "no guns = no violence".

If you could wave a magic wand and remove all guns from the world instantly, only two things would change, people doing violence would use something other than a gun, and people suffering violence done to them would be less able to defend themselves.

GUNS didn't bring down those airliners on that September 11th....
