A MUST READ - "Don't Shoot!"

I guess my biggest question is why didnt she call 911?
If i'm in fear of my life...I'm not going to waste time looking up the state police #
Beyond that...I dont know..

The gun wouldnt have helped her...nor would putting on the brakes as someone mentioned..
Avoidance would be good...Pulling over maybe..after all she was armed....seems to me she pulled in front of a fast moving truck...If a truck tried to pass me four times I'd just get out of its way.

The truck was behind her for a 1/4 mile.....yet she said it tried to pass her four times..four times in the space of four city blocks...hmmm

And honestly, that rape comment she made was more telling about her personality than anything else to me..Imagine a woman rather being raped..hmmmm

And the leo being concerned about the gun while she was on the phone?..makes sense to me

I always like to look at the use of a firearm this way...
..whatever the actual context was, just imagine the person had fired a shot(since that is what the point of carrying is), Would they go to jail...
in that light..pulling and showing a weapon as a threat wasnt justified here.

Who's right and who's wrong? Looks like the lady and the cops both used poor judgement.

However, it's a sign of the times that the legal firearms owner is the one in hot water here. It's a sign of the times that a complaint of "brandishing" can result in the forced search of an automobile and possible charges while the complaint of "assault with an 18 wheeler" leads to nothing. (This was hardly a case of threatening behavior on her part. She voluntarily broke off the contact.) It's a sign of the times that some desk jockey can give BS advice to the street cop and then admit he had no idea what he was talking about. And it's a sign of the times that some pogue with a "Major" title can tell a citizen that the laws are probably too "confusing" for her to understand.

As an LEO, if I did the same thing that women did I would probably lose my job.

This sounds like a case of road rage on both their parts. The proper response to someone tailgating is not to display a firearm. These are the kind of incidents that the national media likes to get a hold of and show this is why we need to take guns away from people. When we lose our rights to possess firearms we can thank people like this women and her husband. Her and her husbands comments shows what their mentality is.

I think the actions of the troopers are being misinterpreted. They get a complaint of what is basically a road rage incident except one person brandishs a firearm. Now imagine if those troopers did not confiscate her firearm and she happened to shoot someone later. Now imagine the law suit which would be against the troopers because they could of prevented the shooting.

A permit to carry a concealed weapon does not allow a person to turn their brain off.

This kind of crap happens all the time.

All anyone needs do in this sorta situation is find a decent spot and get out of the way.

You can't win a vehicle wrestling match with a semi, so getting all hot and bothered about it is stupid. Brandishing is childish and dangerous.

Lesse, she was in the process of being run down by a semi, yet she was in such excellent control that she was able to bring a weapon into play AND use her cell phone? Doesn't sound that critical to me.

Then again, a lot of folks seem to be pretty expert in driving and chatting on the danged phone.

My advice to anyone is hang up that phone and drive, and drive defensively. Your only job when behind the wheel is to arrive safely. If that means getting "over it" and letting a manic pass, well then do it.

More to the point: When did it become illegal to announce that "If you threaten my life I will shoot you"?

It may not be illegal to say...but saying it with a weapon in your hand is a different thing entirely.
There are levels of deterence..and pulling a firearm is WAY toward the end.
If I pulled a gun on every jacka** on the road..i would have been in jail years ago.

Once you pull a gun the next level is pulling the trigger..your options become very limited, your ability to control a situation may well go out the window.

In some states, carry permits require a class to teach you when to use your weapon, and more importantly , when NOT to.
If I were the leo that issued her permit I would press to at least require her to attend one of those classes.

with rights come responsibilities...One of the things that bothers me about our country is our attitude of "my right"..There are other people covered by the constitution, we would do well to think of the impact of our actions on others rights.

I don't know about up north, but here in Florida you have a "duty to retreat" if you can do so safely. This means that the gun is legally used only when there is no reasonable way to avoid being the victim. The driver in question should have found a place to pull off, even in a private driveway, or gotten away from the truck. I assume her car was capable of outrunning and outmaneuvering the 18 wheeler.

That said, she still got some shabby treatment, especially the search of her car after she refused permission. Several articles I've read convinced me that many LEOs are not properly trained on provisions of carry laws. Responsibility for this rests with their police chiefs and budgeting authorities.
