A "Last Ditch" Gimmick

perp with a gun on me, robbery over, looking like he was going to shoot.

All odds at this point are 50-50.
Either you will get shot or you won't.
You will either survive or you won't.
If you do something it may get you killed.
If you do nothing, then you will be killed.

Hence ... do something!

Once you recognize your assailant is going to seriously hurt you (or kill you), anything you do increases your odds for survival.

Look beyond him, open eyes in surprise and say something like "Hit him NOW!" as you move laterally.

you can use that 1.5 seconds to get close to him and disarm/ krav maga/ ninpo/ w/e
This is what I was thinking. He cant shoot you if you control his weapon. You have spent some time on weapons retention/disarming techniques, right?

Mine would be to instantly shoot the person standing in front of me before turning around to engage the person (or non-person) behind me.
Yup, me too. You'd be going down and the (non)person coming up from behind wouldnt have a chance.

This says it all.

I believe that I'd try to convince the guy that if he let me go, I'd take him to my stash of cash and drugs/guns, whatever, non-existant as they are.
This will buy time and put us both in a vehicle on public roads which opens up all kinds of new opportunities.
Time is our Friend here - might even get the Stockholm (sp) thing going.

I keep $30 in a money clip in my right back pocket. A 20 on the top of 10 ones it looks like a lot. I would say here is 400 bucks I don't want any trouble. Toss the clip off to the side of the BG slightly out of reach for the toss. The BG is there for money he isn't going to pass it up. Have the look of sheer terror on your face. That look like your gonna mess your pants. When he goes for that clip draw and give him all your copper and lead as a bonus.

Ummm, I don't want to be a killjoy here, but making those kinds of statements in an open forum could come back to haunt you later. Just a thought...

I have a better plan... I keep my gun positioned right over my wallet... I'd just draw the gun when he tild me to get my wallet, and practice the Mozambique drill on him... save the handing over the wallet stage!

Watch the opening sequence to the movie The Shootist. "Here it is - and a little something extra." :D

If at gunpoint, I use my weapon, I will have had a reasonable and credible threat to serious bodily harm. I have no compunction about doing what it takes to live. No one has a right to threaten me with a gun for ANY reason. Robbery, assault or just plain mental defect. Knowing what I'm going to do only makes me the wiser of him or me. It's not a boast or bragging. It's what I will do to survive.
If you carry you had better run scenario's or don't bother carrying because when it hits the fan, odds are your brain will not function fast enough to wing it!
I believe it called being prepared!
Anything else is just being a victim.....

RE; Thinking Ahead

As "Ohio..." said, whatever we come up with, better it be an idea now than then - when there may be a blank, and we just stand in shock. Course, the fates take over I guess at those minutes, so we may just stand there like deer in the headlights anyway. But a mental "rehearsal" makes that less likely - (I hope).

I mentioned Acting at the start of this thread: interestingly, experienced actors not only think ahead to what SHOULD happen before they go "on", they also know ahead what they'd do if what SHOULDN'T happen does. They're prepared for surprises.

Being prepared also includes planning for the legal ramifications later. If you think your statements here aren't a matter of record, you're dreaming. There IS no privacy on the internet.

Example: You shoot in SD and are cleared of criminal charges. Afterwards, the guy you shot hires a lawyer and, in the course of discovery for the case, your statements made on this forum are entered into evidence and a jury reads them. The burden of proof in a civil case is far lower than in a criminal case. Ooops, bye-bye house and retirement.

I'm not trying to keep you from expressing your feelings, I'm just pointing out to you that you're doing so in a place that's not as private as you might think. ;)

I could be sued for anything. I am not going to start a confrontation with anyone. At no time in this forum have I stated that I can't wait till a BG enters my life or that of my family. I'm not cruising the bad area's of town looking to pull a Charles Bronson. I will however do what I need to save myself or my family from a armed BG.

Now I'm getting back to the thread, which as I recall was about the senerio of having a ARMED robber threaten me with a GUN and how I would react.
I'll distract him if possible and shoot to stop the threat.
