A gun in every room?

If you think you need a gun in every room you either need to move immediately, stop playing so many shooter video games or just carry one around with you throughout the house, preferably in a IWB holster as opposed to your hand.

Your friend sounds like he never grew up or seriously needs psychological counseling.

I wear one on my person if I'm dressed. I chose to do so after reading pax's website.

We do keep one hidden in a strategic location, however. My wife won't carry at home, and putting one in that place was our compromise.

Not every room but proximity is usually close to me.

To stray a little from the op, who answers the door with a gun in easy reach? Checking the mail? Taking out the dog? Sitting on the porch? Working on thr yard?

i keep all my firearms in my bedroom, i consider them my 2nd line of defense, my 1st line of defense are 2 rottweilers.

I carry ...wife does not...have three about the house but you would not know they are there...also have no kids at home and the wife stays home with our two German Shepherds...yeah there is a stainless 686 in the bathroom ...works for us...

I think a gun in every room is a little over kill, NO PUN INTENDED. Not to mention the possible safety issues, guest, children, B&E's, you don't want someone using your own guns on you!

If it that important and as stated here, "keep it on you". Its also within your rights to ware a gun in your home and on your property.

I have one within reach all the time, either on me or in the closet next to the bed.

After being shot in a home invasion robbery, I have rightfully become somewhat paranoid. I keep a loaded handgun hidden in almost every room of my house, of which there are seven. Unless I am in the shower, I have a carry gun on my hip as I do right now while at my desk.

The guns hidden around the house are not in a place where a guest should have their hands. If I know there are children coming to visit or having something like a cleaning service coming to the house, all those guns, except for the one on my hip, get collected and put into the safe. We live in a gated community so even if people stop by with kids for a surprise visit, I still have time to gather up the guns, once I get the call from the guard gate.

I have a gun rack over my bed which has a .22LR Rifle, a 12 gauge Shotgun, and an AR-15. Those never move. If kids come to the house, the bedroom doors get locked. When any type of service is being done to the inside of the house, I am in the bedroom with them as there is way too much stuff in there to be moving around and put away. My master bedroom is an exceptionally large room. I let the cleaning service dust, vacuum, polish the furniture, change the linens, clean the bathroom, and then they are in the rest of the house with the bedroom door locked.

I don't see the need to have a gun in every room. Instead of spreading the guns around, you can get the exact same thing done by just carrying your EDC while at home. You do have an EDC, right? Why should home be any different than being out and about? Not saying that you shouldn't have your bedroom gun, or your long arm in your "final defensive position", but if you have a gun on your person during your waking hours it makes little sense to have them scattered around the house as well.

I live in rural Va two kids in the house 5&7 I keep my EDC with me at all times. All my other weapons are in the safe. We have two mini weiners...they aren't good for anything except to let us know if anything is going on. They're a really alert and non-barking type of dogs, if they do bark we know something is going on and to take a look.

Tell him to keep one on his hip and leave the rest in the safe.

it's better to have a gun on your hip than one to your head.

One loaded in the open in every room is a bit much, especially if there are children around or potentially children around. However, you didn't give more detail so I won't judge the situation without knowing more.

I keep one upstairs and one downstairs, both in small gun safes. Readily accessible and safe from others. No one even knows they are there except my wife and me. I have young children around the house and take every precaution possible.

To each his own.

After recent events that have hit close to home, we have gotten a fast access safe to put in the bedroom. All other guns go in the large safe (which, unfortunately, is not fast access). I am also heavily thinking about getting another fast access safe for the main floor. I'm not worried about kids (we have none and the neighbors don't bring theirs over), just don't want the random burgler to have access to our guns.

Have just ordered my first carry holster (IWB - hope it works for me), but don't see carrying around the house; the dogs will let me know if someone is coming.

A gun in every room?
Once I got to thinking about it, it really doesn't sound like a bad idea, but I don't know if it is a little too much. I also thought about leaving a loaded mag for my favorite home defense gun in every room just in case. Obviously, this would not apply for people with small children, just wandering what you guys think about this.

I agree with other posters who have the opinion that having guns in every room is a bad idea for most people. Even if you have children who are high school or college age and you have them trained; when they bring friends and acquaintances home that is a potential problem. If you do not know the level of firearms training or trust-worthiness of those guests then "Murphy's Law" will operate.

It seems to me that carrying on your person in your home would solve 99% of defensive situations in the home, assuming you keep your doors and windows locked.

Only someone who is a virtual hermit would be a good candidate for the practice of having firearms in all rooms.

I fall into one under my armpit (I like shoulder holsters) and the rest in the safe. A couple times over the years we hear a nearby quicky type mart near us has been hit or something and I will drag out a pump shotgun too.

It's much simpler, safer, and quicker to keep a weapon on one's person.

The others should be in the safe, in general, IMO, although I do keep a shotgun in the bedroom when I'm home. (No kids).

I've been trying to think of something to add here, but I think that Post #2 says it all, and says it just about perfectly.

I keep a pistol on me when I'm dressed. If I'm not dressed one is with in reach. I keep a pistol and shotgun ready in the bedroom.

If keeping guns in every room works for you I cannot see why you should not practice it. An adult is capable of weighing risks and benefits and making the choice they can live with.

I do not keep a gun in each room, mainly because I do not own enough guns yet. Although I do understand the appeal of having a gun hidden in each room.
