A few questions regarding emergency rifles

Henry AR7 .22 survival rifle
This is a survival situation(hunting) but being a semi auto it isn't useless in case you run into something hunting you.

Kel-tec SU-16 seems made for this. PLR-16 is a handgun. I can carry a handgun in the National forest here on my carry permit. Kinda handy.

A Browning SA-22 (or its Norinco clone) rifle breaks down into two pieces, carries eleven rounds of .22 lrs, can be scoped or not, has a fairly innocuous appearance and weighs only 5 lbs.,3 ozs. I've included one on many a canoe trip into the Boundry Waters.

I would go with a small bolt action rifle, maybe a cz 527 Carbine. I would pass on optics myself, i just dont see them as necessary for a survival rifle. As far as extra ammo goes, i would carry a little extra ammo, maybe 20 rounds or so. I think there are other things that you could use more in a survival kit (firestarter water, food, medical supplies, etc) so i wouldn't go crazy with ammo.

I agree with jhgreasemonkey with regards to the handi rifle. i am not sure i would pick a 30-30 for the follow reason. Depend on where you are at i am not sure a 30-30 would stop a charging bear. i would probably go with something larger. i like the 45-70 with marlin loads and i would use a barska electro sight. i would use this sight because you can use it with both eyes open allowing you to more ability to see whatever is charging you, because it is not tube sight(scope) which a lot people cant use with both eyes open. i might even use a 20 gauge smooth bore because you can use riled slugs which can get you out to a hundred yard, and still carry bird shot for game birds, rabbits, and other small game. the 20 gauge would be lighter to carry than a 12 gauge.

On a factor of price, and overall versitility in a survival situation( even in Alaska where bears are a concern) a 12ga police type shotgun ranks high on the list. Slugs for bears, and flare rounds for signaling
rescuers.... Scads of other rounds for
Feeding yourself or defense against humans. Folding/ collaptzing stocks for packability. Lots of sighting options.
