A different "being outed"

I'm sorry Kraigwy, but I think it's funny. Your grand-daughter outed you. :)

Nothing you can do now about what is passed but you can talk to her, maybe use Pax's idea, to make sure she doesn't do it again.

I think it's nice that she knows grandpa would save her.

Its easy to talk to my daughter (13/only child) about my CCW because she has been around firearms (rifles, shotguns, pistols) all of her life and is interested in them.

Several months back I pulled into a parking space,,,
After turning my motor off I reached into my inner jacket pocket,,,
I removed my handgun and it's pocket holster and secured them in my lock-box.

Aarond -

There's certainly nothing wrong with what you did, but it might be justfication for keeping a dedicated "car gun" in your vehicle, in compliance with the law of course. Then, if you're on your way to work, you don't have to transfer the gun from yourself to another location.

In Florida our guns only have to be enclosed, such as in a glove box or center console, where they are still very handy. I know this may not work for everyone - I'm fortunate, I park in a monitored lot at work and park in my garage at home.

My children are 5 and 10. There is no need for them to know I carry. They are not in the bedroom when it goes on or off and I don't flash or discuss it with them.

They have seen and handled firearms but CCW is something they have no need to be aware of at their current ages.

Countzero sorry you ran into one of the bozos in education. A lot of childish people in that field. My response to her would be that swimming pools kill more kids than guns and start asking her if her pool is locked...if she keeps her water locked up separately from the pool.

Its good to talk w kids about guns so they know they aren't toys. But its also good advice to tell them to keep quiet about it around their friends and at school.

and I'd be willing to bet they don't ;-)

Pocket Carry or Smart Carry are my primary means for a J frame S&W or Firestar M-43 9mm. If I have the 1911, rare, it is IWB and tucked. There are no horseback rides then.

It takes strict adherence to personal rules to keep my carrying secret from them but if you can't strictly adhere to rules you shouldn't have a gun. Keeping children out of the mix though prevents all sorts of uncomfortable situations. My father did the same with me till I was 15/16 an that was 25 years ago.

My response to her would be that swimming pools kill more kids than guns and start asking her if her pool is locked.
That might work with someone willing to listen. To many folks however, the response would be, "so you admit that guns kill children. If we had stricter restrictions on guns, they would kill even fewer children."

Any time small kids blurt out something in front of strangers the best you're ever going to be able to do is look'em straight in the eye and shrug your shoulders with your best "kids, what are you gonna do" embarassed look and move on.

Here in Utah we can carry concealed or open on school grounds.

Perfectly legal.

Besides that... concealed is concealed.

What's that old saying?,,,

My response to her would be that swimming pools kill more kids than guns and start asking her if her pool is locked.

Never try to teach a pig to sing,,,
It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Or,,,

Do not try to understand them,,,
And do not try to make them understand you,,,
For they are a breed apart,,, and make no sense.

Best to just tell them outright that you give no credence to what they are saying,,,
And then proceed to ignore them.
