a compact & light weight 45 Colt double action???

After carrying concealed since 1973 (when I pinned on a badge) I can tell you, concealing that 4" barrel is easier than concealing the bulge from the N-frame cylinder. I've never understood why people think you have to have a 2" barrel to conceal a revolver. The cylinder and butt are what show, not the barrel. Even 4" barrels are concealable.

I agree and currently appendiceal IWB a 3.75" birdshead New Vaquero. As Wheelman has already pointed out the trick is to get it riding high enough.

I do fine with my cylinder right behind my belt with just the grip sticking above my wasit line, but it is one of those just barely if I wear the right clothes and don't have to bend over for anything. I can kneel just fine, drive a stick shift no problem, but bending over at the waist to say pick up a ten dollar bill without gouging myself in the thigh is a problem.

^^Yeah, the cylinder is longer than needed, but otherwise, it almost meets the criteria: smallish, lightweight, fires the .45 Colt ( with a 410 option), and has been getting some good reviews. If you can hide and pack a 5 shot .45 Colt, you can probably do the same with the S&W or comparable Taurus Judge, if you prefer. Otherwise, you have to hunt down a Taurus Titanium 5-shot .45 Colt, and pay whatever the seller wants.

Ruger alaskan

I have no problem hiding my Ruger Alaskan appendix carry. The short barrel is comfortable, and the BIG cylinder disappears into my lean belt line.
A flat thin holster and the big gun rides securely.

I used the smaller GP100 grip on it.

I had a harder time carrying the 629 Smith four inch barrel

I hope S&W and Taurus company people read this because, YES I would buy one if it had a shorter cylinder that only took 45 colt. It shouldn't be too hard to change the frame / cylinder and use common parts from their Governor/Judge models.

Too small. I want someone to make a .50 Special. Double action 5 shot with a 3in. barrel. Something that will throw about 350 or more grains of lead at around 750 to 850 FPS. I would even settle for a solid frame with gate loading. I think I would relegate all my other carry guns to the safe if I could get something like that. Of course if I could get rid of those silly caliber restrictions I would really prefer .577 or maybe .65 spl. I will keep dreaming.

well... this is a 5 shot 50 A.E. Super Blackhawk... I guess I'm not interested in trimming the pipe any shorter, but if a guy trimmed the barrel to 3" & threw on a birdshead grip panel, & it's be a great single action carry gun ;)

well if you truly have the money to buy a sw da/sa 44 magnum and have it rechambered, youll have enough money to get online and try to find a Taurus Tracker in 45 colt.
discontinued for almost a decade. new in box models typically go for 8-900 a pop.

sorry to corn fuse anyone... I just posted the pics of my 50 for HORSELESS'S benefit

& yes, I am the OP...

my retired builder buddy was over to do some shooting on Sunday, & we took the time to look at a couple of my guns... even though, he wouldn't want to do the double action work ( futzing with the extractor on a double action... though he has no issues building single action cylinders ) we measured my GP-100 & in his opinion, it would be too small to fit 5 - 45 colt chambers in that size cylinder... we also looked at my ( 396 / 696 ??? sorry, can never remember S&W's model numbers ) anyway, my scandium / titanium 5 shot 44 Special, & those chamber walls are already paper thin, as is the forcing cone, so unless the Mountain Lite 5 shot 44 Mag is built on the N frame, it's unlikely that could be modified from .429 chambers to 45 Colt... which pretty much leaves the 5 shot Taurus Tracker in 45 Colt, which has pretty much been discontinued since they started making the Judges... otherwise I'm back to the bigger cylinder of something like the 625's

any other suggestions ???
