Most people automatically think of such guns as the 1911, the Hi Power, basic .38 or .357 mag wheelgun, etc.
But the gun I see most commonly missing from collections of people who feel theirs is complete is the venerable single action.
The next over looked gun seems to be a heavy caliber revolver.
And lastly I'm not even sure this counts because I'm not sure how others define a "complete" collection but I do not consider a collection complete without at least one cap and ball revolver. They are dirt cheap to buy and feed and more fun than a person should be allowed to have.

Assuming you all already have the basics, (you know, a 1911, a 9mm, a .357 revolver, at least one mouse gun...), in order to complete the collection you need:

A Glock in 10 mm

A Ruger Mark II .22

A Desert Eagle

There are other things you also need to make any collection complete:

a few holsters laying around that you forgot what gun you bought them for,

A bucket or two of brass in your garage,

Several articles of clothing picked especially to accomodate concealed carry,

A wide assortment of targets, some already shot up, laying around in your garage or stuffed in your trunk,

Ear protection devices of several types, from the cheap foam plugs to the expensive electronic muffs,

.22 brass stuck in the treads of your boots,

Now you're a serious collector, shooter, gun person, congratulations!

For shooters, not collectors?

1. 1911A1
2. Browning High Power
3. Ruger MK II
4. HK P7M8
5. Colt Python
6. Makarov
7. CZ-75

Collectors:

1. P-08 Luger
2. Mauser C-96 Broomhandle

How about by action type
a single action
a da/sa
a da only
a squeeze cocker
a "safe action"
A single or double shot derringer
a pepperbox

Revolvers
a single action
a da/sa
a da only
an auto

Did I miss any action types?

Now try and intertwine that with 1 from each of the major manufactures

Colt
smith
HK
glock
browning
sig
berreta
etc

and you can't also couple that with historically the most important and arguably the best examples such as

p7m8
1911
hi-power
saa
python
walther ppk
luger
etc

My collection will not be complete untill I have 3 of each (and I don't mean type, I mean each firearm ever made!) ah to dream
then I can finish my rifle and shotgun collection, ooh then class 3 then ohh....

Bill Gates, I swear I am your only living relitive, I was lying when I swore I was Sam Waltons!
