A British couple goes shooting for the first time

I have a friend here at work, born in Britain and married an American gal, they moved back here. He soon became naturalized, is politically a Conservative Republican, and a gun owner. He and his oldest son took their hunter safety course together. Both his oldest sons now in the USAF as officers. Phil is here to stay as a proud American!

I have met several foreign-born Americans at our local range. They do enjoy their rights, including the Second Amendment!

manta49 You don't have to be in America for the wife to complain about the amount of money spent on firearms. I live in the UK and get plenty of complaining from the wife.

Know what you mean....I'm in Edinburgh & I can hear her from here!!

You must need more practice on sneaking more kit into the house; a cardboard tube in an otherwise empty gunslip is a good option

That said - mine shocked me by spotting that my Rem 870 seemed to have taken on a new appearance one day - I thought "she'll NEVER spot a second 870" = WRONG

saddler: The military collection in Sterling Castle is interesting. The Enfield #4/Mk. 2 is a beauty (two years ago). One morning we walked from the B&B up towards the Royal Mile. With throngs of people leaving the area, I told my wife that we must have missed something worth seeing.

Your troops had Just returned from the war, and I heard that the parade was just like in the old newsreels, bag pipes and all!
Wish we had known about it the day before:(.

Theohazard: :)Nice job. A very attractive English lady works at the ranger station in the Shelby Farms recreation area.
I told her that the Germantown gun shows are barely two miles away.

The news somehow provoked a strange, worried look on her face.

Most UK citizens haven't seen never mind held a firearm of any type never mind an AR. Its drummed into you that guns are bad :(
I moved to France thinking gun laws where the same and stumbled across a range not knowing its legal to own virtually anything (not fully auto) and now have a hobby I love.
I regularly see the smile on peoples faces when they see and shoot for the first time :D
I couldn't go back to the UK now as I wouldn't want to give it up.

That is good to know:
I have some ties with that very beautiful country and so if ever life offered an opportunity to live there a while, it might be nice for the family to try life in yet another country.

The fact that I can keep shooting is even better!! :D

Yeah you can't carry here at all it purely a sport and checks are made before getting a licence for semi auto or pistols/revolvers but its easy to get a .22lr bolt rifle (or any non military 3 shot rifle) you can get a M14 in 300 savage or a SAKO TRG in .338 very easy :D

There are many Indian (from India) people working with my wife. They are all techies. My wife and I shoot at the local gun range (The Bullet Trap, Plano, Tx) often. She asked some of the Indians if they would like to shoot with us and most did. They were excited about shooting since they weren't allowed to have guns in India and most had never even held a gun.
They really liked it! Loved to have their pictures taken with guns to send back home to friends and family. Very nice people. The Indian women took to shooting very fast and usually out shot the men. Probably because they were more willing to pay attention to instructions.
We love introducing new people to shooting.

Guns in France. cool. I am now willing to travel aboard

Well then, go to Thailand. More fun than France, less expensive and the food is incredible. They have shooting ranges and Bangkok alone has more than 75 Gunstores.

I like the Thai people more than the French. (that's a personal observation from experience)

Thailand is number one in the world for Tourists; Bangkok, this year is more popular than Paris and London. At any given time there are 2 million Tourists in Thailand. I own 2 homes in Thailand and spend a good amount of time in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang mai, Phuket..etc. My wife is Thai.

I do spend a lot of time at the various shooting ranges and at some of them, I know the owners well enough to bring inert Glock parts over (perfectly legal) for them. No frames, no barrels. Funny thing that is most Countries Barrels are serial numbered and those numbers must match the frame. Here in the USA we're only concerned with the frames.......haha.

An observation about tourists from Gun Restricted Countries. I've had some good conversations with these people who are IN AWE of our Gun Rights. They turn GREEN with envy when you ipad your gun collection photos at a dinner table. Most of these people have never seen a gun in real life; some have never held a gun. People from England, China, Japan (mostly young men with their girlfriends on Holiday) line up at these Thai Gun Ranges and pay $1 dollar per bullet to shoot 10 rounds of .22..

.44 magnum is most expensive...$10 per bullet.....arrrg.

This thread needs some photos..

Want to transport your GLOCK from Bangkok down to Phuket on Air Asia.? No problem, just check it with the Ticket Agent.

Want to rent a gun and shoot 10 bullets? 30 baht is $1 dollar. So shooting 10 rounds of .44 magnum will
cost you $104 american dollars. The Tourists pay this cost gladly.

Typical gun accessories store

They even sell gun related gear on the SIDEWALKS in downtown Bangkok

Here in the USA they won't allow guns displayed in store windows. (BATF Rule) No problem in Thailand.

Sounds good luckily I can get all the above here including military calibers in this part on the UK.

I've seldom known anyone who didn't enjoy shooting firearms when given the opportunity and proper, patient instruction.
Some folks don't like certain weapons, usually because of weight, recoil, noise or poor fit. Not everyone becomes a gun enthusiast or avid shooter. And many will never buy a gun of their own.
But most folks enjoy it, and most ask to do it again.

Maybe I've just been lucky
