A-5

I'll reinforce what the others are saying. I have a Belgium Browning Sweet Sixteen. I take it hunting more than my 12 ga's when going for small game. It's fun to shoot, easy to take down, and clean, and with the proper amount of care, it feeds and ejects flawlessly.

My 12 gauge A-5 was my fathers. He purchased it in 1955. I have the photos of it sitting under the Christmas Tree.

It doesn't fit me, it is relatively heavy yet it still kicks fairly hard. I wouldn't dream of taking anything else in the field for pheasants. It is my favorite gun!

Mr. Browning is a genius in my book.

I've had my Auto-5 Light 12 for 50 years now. Bought it new in 1956 when I was 17 years old. It has been a great gun and has been used for everything from rabbits, squirrels, pheasants, ducks, prairie chickens, geese, dove, quail and clay birds.

I have 2 Savage 720's one made in 1948 and one made in the late 50's. Boy do they shoot.... One is my HD gun loaded with 6 rounds of 00 buck.

Of all his designs, there are only two JMB spent many years on, developing and refining:

1) 1911 .45 auto

2) A5 shotgun.

Perfect!!

Trigger pull...........accurate,.........RELIEABLE,..........great with birdshot/Slugs.It goes on and on.Great old memories as a child with my dad deer hunting. Now she is all mine.IF it broke I would fix it.It's true love!!Get any belgem A-5.IT'S PERFECT!

I have read elsewhere that you should buy a Japanese A-5 barrel if you want to shoot steel in these guns. The Belgium steel was "soft", while the Japanese steel is much "harder" and is suitable for steel shot.

Rhodesian A5

Hello Mr. Gelhaus,

After many years with the JMB 1911 pistols, I recently became interested in shotguns. After some research, I recently purchased a very nicely refinished Remington Model 11 and and now I am looking to purchase a Browning A5.

I came accross an old post of yours concerning the A5 shotgun made for the Rhodesian Military and found it very intriguing.

I would be very appreciative if you could tell me the differences between your Rhodesian A5 and the regular Browning A5. Also, where I might look to try and find a Rhodesian A5. If you have one, a picture of your Rhodesian A5 would be great.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Regards,
John

I have a very early A5 in 16 ga. that unfortunately has the early short chamber. By that I mean the chamber is a few thousandths shorter than the modern 2.75 chamber and hence is unsafe to shoot with modern ammo. Pretty wall hanger.

My other is a 1942 Reminton 11 which is a real work horse. Never had a misfire or failure to extract in the 15 years I've owned it.
