9mm !!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it everwhere i read i hear people saying the 9mm is weak an only to buy one if that's the only thing your comfortable with. IMO i think the 9mm is a very effective. I ask my best friend who is a navy seal an he tould me that the 9mm the 40 an the 45 are not that much of a difference in stoping power like everyone thinks. JUST ON THING TO KEPT IN MINE ONLY ONE STOP SHOT IS ONE TO THE Forehead.... WHAT IS YOUR OPINION>>>

10mm

the 10mm is in another class of bullet my favorite but if i had to pick another caliber it would be 9mm just like speed....

I have had limited experience with a 45. Once I rented a Sig P220 and couldn't find difference in recoil to my 9 mm. The cartridge seemed to have enormous diameter at first sight.

357 revolver is something I would call unpleasant to shoot.

hmmm... the writing style seems oddly familiar. I just can't quite place it though. Not Hemingway or Miller, but it's a somewhat famous writing style nonetheless.....

To respond to the topic, and the statement that 'the only one stop shot is one to the forehead': The perp who shot a police officer in my hometown point blank in the forehead with a .22 might disagree with you. The bullet basically crumpled up against one of the hardest sections of bone in the body and left a welt that was later covered up by a bandaid.

Isn't dead...DEAD? At that point, I'm sure caliber wouldn't matter to your target. Shoot what you're comfortable with & practice, practice, practice!

A comparison of the premium loadings in the three calibers you mentioned will show, I think, minimal differences in performance. Well, minimal, in my opinion.

.22 don't count just 9mm 40 45acp if u can place any of those in the right spot there is very little differece between them but if u shoot one better then the other then that's the only reason to pick one over the other .. not because of stoping power.....

Don't have a 9mm, but I'd feel just fine with one. I prefer the .45, however. Not because it might or might not be a better stopper... just like the primal feeling of the round.

Comfortable with a 9m/m?

For accuracy, the 9m/m is very hard to beat.:D Heck, I
know several folk's that can pick your "eye teeth" right
out of your head, with a 9m/m. Most of these folk's
are TFL member's; who shoot a variety of other caliber's.
For me, my Sig P228 in my hands ranks among this group.
You might be suprised to learn who the other member's
are?

Ahh...this topic once again. I speak for myself when saying this....a hand gun round is ineffective, period. Regardless of caliber, size, capacity. Think of it this way. In most cases, you're trying to punch a hole into a boney mass with a small piece of lead. Sure, we see death and other unfortunate incidents caused by hand guns all the time. But to trust your life, your family's life, to a tiny projectile is foolish. There is no fool-proof way to protect ourselves. We protect ourselves with hand guns HOPING that if the need arises, it will save us from the BG. This is exactly where endless amounts of training and familiarizing ourselves with our weapons comes into play. Do I feel safe when carrying, yes. Is my confidence and personal safety a gaurantee that 3 BG's won't come into my house, kill me and my wife, and take me for what I'm worth? Nope. Is my military background, my job title, and my weapons training a gaurantee for my very existence? Nope. But constant training does help....regardless of what I carry.

To comment on 'the only one stop shot is one to the forehead':
Not only is the skull the most armored part of your body, it's round...thus making the chance for deflection much greater. Plus, it's the hardest part of the body to hit!

The 9mm will kill you just as dead as the larger calibers---and maybe even faster because of the multiple hits due to the faster recovery time.

Looking at the tables in the back of the Guns&Ammo annual---shows some of the hotter 9mm loads are doing around 400 ft-lbs at the muzzle----roughly twice what a .38 Spl is doing---not too many complaints about the .38--are there??

You can get practice ammo for the 9mm cheaper than any of the larger calibers-----more practice=a better shooter.

Most--but not all--9mm's will hold more shots than any other pistol----Do you want to be facing somebody who has more shots----more practice with their gun and a faster recovery time??

I own guns for all 3 calibers---the 9mm is nothing to sniff at-----thinking---oh its just a 9mm--might just get you killed if someone pulls one on you. You're going to be seeing me looking for cover---FAST!!!!

I do not feel handicapped with a 9. I have not had a 9 fail to feed, maybe it is the taper of the case, maybe just good firearms and ammo. I find the 9 slightly easier to control than the 45 and a lot easier than a small 357.

"the 10mm is in another class ..."

Amongst otherwise garbled prose (DEFINITELY not Hemingway) came a sequence of words that made sense.

>>> .22 don't count just 9mm 40 45acp if u can place any of those in the right spot there is very little differece between them but if u shoot one better then the other then that's the only reason to pick one over the other .. not because of stoping power.....

- 99% of police officers never fire their pistol once in their entire careers.
- For citizens, it's probably 99.99%. You are more likely to die from heart disease than shooting - by a factor of 10,000. More than half of all fatal shootings are suicides. The NRA says the chance of being shot is over 40% lower than it was 100 years ago.
- The military uses rifles whenever possible. A few units practice pistol marksmanship extensively, but all of them use the M4 carbine when given a choice.
- The 9mmP is a suitable round for military use because your opponent is likely to have on body armore or heavy clothing - so the ability to penetrate is important.
- Why don't .22's count? That is the caliber chosen by professional assissins because it is subsonic and easily concealed. Shots are at close range to the eye socket or base of the skull. But car bombs have proven more popular, anyway.

So, what you are really asking is which caliber of pistol you would prefer to use in a circumstance that has almost no chance of happening. Answer - doesn't matter. But statistically, the 9mm Parabellum is reputed to have killed more humans than any other caliber.

Well, since the .38 used to be the standard police and military round nationwide and isn't anymore anywhere, obviously there were plenty of complaints about it. The 9mm was judged pretty well until the famous FBI Miami shootout and the FBI's swinging a lot of law enforcement agencies to the horrible subsonic 147 grainer (which only existed in the first place because it could be effectively silenced), which took it back to .38 performance. Then started a new round of horror stories about overpenetration, lack of stopping power (things the .38 were known for) and the then current crop of semiautos failing to function properly. That's when the 9mm got a bad rep. At least the .38 gave you 6 reliable shots. The current 115's, 124's and I hear even the 147's are vastly superior to the ones existing back in the 70's.

Dang it, I swore I'd never get pulled into one of these caliber wars again. I'm happy with 9mm, .357, .40, and .45. They're pistol rounds, not death rays. You've got to place them well.
