Anyone heard of anyplans for either SW or Taurus to bring us a snubbie in 9mm? Like a Titanium one? What do ya think?

S&W has produced their 2 inch barrelled, Model 940, in 9mm.

Ruger has produced their snub SP101 in 9mm.

What do ya think?
I think that the gun manufacturers will produce the revolvers that people will BUY.

Ruger and S&W didn't stop making these 9mm snubbies because they were selling too many!

9mm revolvers

Hi Mark IV Series 80,

I picked up a S&W 940 a few weeks ago, great gun and great fun since I can fire 9mm very cheaply and the combo of gun and ammo is ballistically impressive. I'm looking for a Ruger SP101 and one of their earlier 9mm revolvers, either the Security Six, the Speed Six or the Service Six. Two of those three were chambered in 9mm for the European market.

Ruger still sells the Blackhawk convertible with two cylinders for 9mm and 357. Astra made a convertible Police model years ago. Charter Arms made a 9mm Pit Bull and S&W made a 9mm 547. All the out of production 9's are of interest to me.

Your right, sales determine production. People buy what they know and what they've heard about the most. Few know how nicely a 9mm revolver performs so few are purchased. Too bad!

Out here in the used to be wild west, I run into a 940 once in a while and an SP 9mm a couple of years ago...but didnt have a clue what it was or I would have bought it then :D
Shoot well

I like the 940 (except for the weight, of course). Mine hits about as hard as the 357 snubby from my subjective comparison of the two weapons.

S&W also made some K-frame model 547 9mms trying to get a French contract that resulted in the Manurhin (IIRC). :D

I researched these numbers real quick on the web for another post. Data from Remington, CCI-Speer, Winchester, Federal.

9mm splits the difference between .38 +P and .357

.38 Spec +P 125gr 950fps
9mm 125gr 1100fps
.357 125gr 1300-1500fps

I sought out a used, 3" SP-101 in 9mm for an old girlfriend who wanted a pistol. I figured the combination of revolver for simplicity, 9mm for stopping power, and full-moon clip for even simpler reloading would be a winner. Plus it was $265. She wasn't strong enough to rack the slide on most automatics, but could pull the DA trigger with one finger, with enough accuracy for "Get out of my bedroom" work. Pull the trigger 5 times, reload.

The 3" was snappy with 115gr. ball and a riot with some imported 147gr. +P FMJ from IMI, IIRC. I didn't have her fire that, I was just checking the recoil. The factory stocks are brutal, BTW. ;) We found the Hogue 3-finger grip to be nearly perfect, and slim.

I've kept an eye out for a six-shot Ruger in 9mm, but I'd rather some one make a five-shot .45 on a frame that size-- but not Taurus.

I go ga-ga over ANY revolver that fires a "Rimless" semi-auto cartridge, whether using "moonclips" or not...as fart as 9mm's go, I've owned a Smith 940 and currently have a Ruger "Speed-Six" and a Smith 547 ...they're a BLAST to shoot, and it can be quite a hoot to show the uninformed that yes, Virginia, there ARE 9mm REVOLVERS!!!...I'd STILL like to find an SP101 in 9, preferably with the three-inch barrel, and another 940...and...well, you get the idea!!!....I also wish that SOMEBODY would introduce a six-shot 9mm, .38 Super OR 9x23 revo that used "moonclips" from the factory...it'd be the ULTIMATE "IDPA Game Revolver"!!!....mikey357

I thought Dan Wesson was going to start making a 9mm revolver for IDPA.

Anyone else hear this?

Cool. Too bad S&W didn't design a frame specifically for the 9mm -- I suspect it coulda been smaller than the J-frame, since 9mm is shorter than .38.

I'll have to keep an eye out for one, since I favor moon clips over speed loaders.

M1911 - that's a great idea! Smith used to make a smaller-than-j-frame, the i-frame for .32s. An i-frame 940-4 would be great . . . or an aluminum i-frame 340-1 would be even better.

Never happen, though.

mikey357: keep looking. I've seen two since then, both under $300  I just don't have the cash to splurge right now.

Where's them 9mm wheelguns?

Hello, forum, just joined, glad to be here. I've spent MUCH time looking for a 4" bbl. 9mm Ruger Speed/Service/Security Six revo; only one I saw was behind glass at NRA museum---No, curator said no chance! I have a Speed 6 in 9mm, 2.75" bbl. It's nice but a lil short for IDPA classifier, IMO. Guess you could mix & match one of those with a 4" 38/357 bbl., don't know how it would shoot or if IDPA legal, just don't let S.O.'s look close:D . Oh, I got alocal 'smith to get a 9 mm cyl. for my S&W mod. 37 (NOT a drop-in job, BTW. Since it's a ltwt. I only shoot wimpy type practice loads thru it in either cal. I kinda like the whole moon clip thing, but they're not everyones bag, baby. Shoot smart!

That is very true. I think I can get the 940 back into action as quick as an autoloader after it runs dry . . . I sure can't do that useing a speedloader.

Have you considered the Phillips & Rogerss

medusa conversion of a S&W 19? It susposedly shoots all 38/9mm type ammo includind 380, 9mm,38 super, 38 acp, 9mm largo, 38 spec, 357 magnum etc all in one cylinder! wish they did the conversion for my Dan Wesson! Now I have to buy a 19/66 just to get one of these!
Geeze another gun I just gotta have!

Here's an idea for those of us that would like to see 9x19mm wheelguns made again. From what I understand, Taurus is making the Tracker in 45ACP. If you have any interest in a 45ACP wheelgun, buy one. Get your friends to buy them. Then start writing to them about how much you love them and how much you would like a 9x19mm wheelgun to back up your Beretta. They will listen eventually. Taurus seems to be trying really hard to keep up with new stuff. If all else fails and you can handle having a SA wheelgun, look into the Ruger Blackhawk Convertible.

jmlv,

I have been hoping to find a medusa revolver for some time now. They not only made them for the K frame S&W but also for the Ruger Blackhawks. I first saw them at the Shot Show when it was in Dallas. Doesn't require any moon clips because of the well designed shell extraction they made for the S&W revolvers. It was really weird seeing a cylinder loaded with six different calibers. .380, .38 Super, 9mm, 38 spc., .357, and 9mm Largo. There are several other calibers that are able to be shot with it but these are what come to mind at this time. Real Cool Crap. A must have in my collection.

BTW, I have a S&W 940 that I bought for the Spousal Unit. I really like it. I am glad I bought it for her.
