9mm question?

Out of all of the sub compact 9mm pistols on the market, which one is the most well balanced with the least amount of recoil?

Recoil is a function of weight, velocity of the load and mass of the projectile. The smallest and lightest gun will have the most.

The only sub compact 9mm I have experience with is the Ruger LC9S. A friend let me shoot his. It wasn't something I'd want to shoot many rounds out of. Compared to my Beretta 92FS, the little Ruger was what I would say, painful. But to be fair, I would imagine all sub compacts are like that.

I've mentioned this many times on this site & I'll mention it again, my Walther PPS M2 is the smallest & lightest but very shootable gun that I know of. And it carries great with every holster I've tried with it.

I would cast my vote for the Springfield XDM 9mm compact. 13 round capacity, decent trigger, decent sights, decent pricetag, very reliable, very comfortable, does not have the word glock on it anywhere.

This statement is true of calculated "free recoil." However, felt recoil can be affected by other things, and most folks find that the felt recoil of a blowback pistol is greater than that of a locked breech pistol, all other things (such as pistol weight, bullet weight, muzzle velocity) held equal.

Absolutely, which is why gun fit is also just as important here as it is with shotguns or rifles. Grip angle and design, checkering, etc. can also be factors for felt recoil

Sub Compact

The Glock 26. 10+1 or 12+1 capacity and works with the larger 17 and 19 magazines. Small enough for discreet carry and lots of firepower.

"Sub Compact" can mean many things to many people.
What size exactly did you have in mind.
If it's the so called compact size of a full sized model, take a look at the Ruger SR9 compact.
A very nice shooter.
For the real small pocket sized ones, certain modifications might be in order for better shooting - like different grips, longer mags, 'etc.
Lastly, there's the skill of the user in understanding and controlling the effects of recoil.
Probably the most important of all.

One thing to look for in a gun to minimize recoil is the alignment of the barrel to the top of the hand. The lower the line of the barrel or the higher you can place the web of the hand into the gun, felt recoil will be reduced.
Take the Taurus 709. My brother just purchased a slim line and I thought it was going to be a sharp little 9mm. In fact the way it fit into MY hand it had less felt recoil than my 26.
I would also like to agree with P5 Guy

This works so well with my 26 (17 mag) that its the only thing I carry now. The short mags (10) are for back up. For me its not just the recoil but it feels so much better that I am surprised that Glock hasn't made a 15 round 26 or shorter barrel. (Are you listening Glock???)

There are currently many good guns that fall in this category. Go to a few gunatoriums and gun shows and hold them in your hands. See how they fit and if the features are what you have in mind. If a local range gives you the option of renting one, try that.

Most of these guns fall into about the same price range. Most of them work very well. Which one will fit well for you sometimes takes some time to discover. You have time.

Remember that buying a new or used gun is not a lifetime commitment. If it don't fit sell it as used and move on to the next. You learn things that way.

I haven't even shot my new Remington R51 yet, but bet it would be top of the list for what you want. I know it's balance, and feel are great!
