9mm N320 load data help?

That should make PF even out of a short barrel. Do not load that short if you ever try N310 though, even at 1.160" although the "softest" round I have shot that makes PF, is still very high pressure.

For a 4" barrel gun, you would increase the load a bit. Im making 125 PF at 4.2 gn with 115 gn bullet.

I looked up my chrono data for my 4" star pistol, and at 4.4gn of TG, I was getting 125.9 for PF.. 4.5gn of TG made 127.2 PF...

125 is the min as far as IDPA rules go. So, I set my goal to get as close to 125 as I can.

Borrow a chronograph to do your load development. I found my loads to be about 30 fps faster than what's listed in the VhitaVhouri catalog.

Go read 8.3.2.1.1 in the rule book, no need to make hotter loads for short barrel guns. Your load doesn't need to make PF except in a firearm with the longest legal barrel length for the class.

That said my loads always chrono around 130 PF.

8.3.2.1.1 applies if 8.3.2.1 is true.. Otherwise, its 8.3.2.2

With any load development, you work them up to meet a goal/purpose.

Would I want to shoot at a max PF lvl all the time when min PF will do? I's choose min any day.

Here are a couple, my XDm doesn't like plated bullets so it's a jacketed load (for reference).

Gun: XDm 5.25 9mm (14 lb. Wolff recoil spring)
Bullet: Precision Delta 147 gr. FMJ-RN
Powder: VihtaVuori N320 3.6 grs.
Primer: Federal 100
Case: Federal
LOAL: 1.150
Average Velocity: 988.81 fps
ES: 17.97
SD: 5.74

Gun: Glock 17L with Lone Wolf Barrel (ISMI 13 lb. recoil spring and Jager Polymer Guide Rod)
Bullet: Bullet Works 147 gr. Plated RN
Powder: VihtaVuori N320 3.7 grs.
Primer: Federal 100
Case: Federal
LOAL: 1.145
Average Velocity: 943.93 fps
ES: 28.97
SD: 10.34

It's been my experience that plated bullets are slower than jacketed over the same powder charge.

Like I said if your gun has a short barrel your ammunition doesn't have to make PF, as long as it will make it out of a maximum legal barrel length.

8.3.2.2.2 If the competitor’s ammunition fails to make power factor, the competitor will have the option to chronograph three additional rounds using his/her firearm or a firearm of maximum barrel length for the division.
