9mm gel test: Federal 9BPLE

Marshall & Sannow has been repeatedly discredited.
The data from the shootings they studied is valid, whether one agrees with all their conclusions or not.

Many agencies used (and some still use) the 9BPLE with good real world results
Gel tests now don't change that reality.

That's not much af a source for anything other than their own opinion.

Our goal is to instill a healthy attitude of skepticism in you so you're not as willing to believe everything you read.
Hopefully, you'll learn enough here such that you'll be able to evaluate the qualifications of so-called ballistics experts.

I see no reason to believe they have any qualifications, and they didn't present anything original

I like to say that limited knowledge is a very dangerous thing, and I repeat it again here and now.
So the 9BPLE is a very fine round.
What I said is, that be careful.
If you are a kid, (or can't see the woods from the tree) with the cutest-lighest-smallest-plastic wonder, CAREFUL
This round was developed for law enforcement. BPLE
For firearms in (very)good condition.
Advertised/supposedly producing 1,300 fps. down range. And that's my friend is fast, but it needs high pressure.
As far as I'm concerned you can use all the hand grenades in your toy, but be warned.
There is more to it then just 9mm.

Which manufacturers certify their firearms for +P+ ammo?

Probably because the pistols you used were designed with a generous margin of safety, or because the +P+ you used really wasn't > +P. Some +P+ loads -- for which there is no formal definition -- are a marketing gimmick to snag shooters.

My choice

I've read all the ballistics on the 9mm & 40 I choose Federal hydra & hst. 1st choice. Rem Golden Saber 2nd choice but seeing how I haven't shot anyone lol hope they work

Hk USP series

Interesting. I understand that SAAMI does not define +P+, so there must be some formal definition that includes an upper pressure limit that allows HK to endorse use of such ammo. Do you happen to know what that upper limit is for 9 Luger and who establishes said limit?

Marshall & Sannow has been repeatedly discredited.

Discredited by some, but not disproved.

In the engineering world, equations are often modified as a result of the collection of empirical data. These modifiers are used to set policy for installation of foundations in construction, etc, because they have been proven to be relevant factors. They don't discredit the original theory.

Hundreds or thousands of shootings will never be irrelevant. And all the gel tests you can stand to watch on the internet or all the gun magazines you can read don't negate real world results.

There is no subject I can think of that has more cork sniffers and armchair "experts" than handgun stopping power. But through it all, real world results speak for themselves.
