9mm approved for duty carry. Armed security

Just reaching out to my fellow gunners here at Firing line. I am retired USN 25 years Gunners Mate Chief Petty Officer. To have something to do I am a security mgr for new armed account. Our company approved 9mm for carry for all 12 of my officers. Chris our district wanted Beretta 92Fs. But with everyone on my staff being former military and law enforcement no one wanted it. So Chris said come up with three. Find best cost. The 3 are:

1. SW MP9
2. GLOCK 19
3. SIG P320

All three are excellent. MP9 and GLOCK 19
great guns. But I got a great deal with the Sig 320 Full size or Compact. Not very familiar with it. I understand it's Sig first striker fired. So I rented it and fired it with another retired vet 21 year Marine Gunney Eric. WOW. WE WERE ASTONISHED. Now with that being said. What do you all know about this Sig? Our ammo is 124 grn +P Federal HST.

I think I understand your enthusiasm, arnmar, but I doubt a security company is going to be interested in a small maker 1911 with all those confusing buttons and levers versus a plastic pistol at half the price.

Not sure why you'd choose two full size guns, then the compact Glock? I'd choose the Glock 17 out of them all. Easy to use, reliable, easy to work on, lots of parts available.

Sir,

From all reports I'm aware of it seems to run fine. And it's not expensive.

Don't see any reason to not get it. Just make sure the users shoot the heck out of 'em.

BTW, I'm a Glockphile but if it works, it works.

I have the P320 Compact. I had the other two you're also considering.

The S&W & Glock are fine guns but both need, IMO, some enhancements/add-ons to get up to speed.

The Sig P320 is good-to-go out of the box. Great trigger, very accurate and far more flexible.

GLOCKs, Brass to Face, You

While I also own SIGs, but not any of the new P320 models.
The S&Ws I've got are all revolvers, so that's no help.
I've been using
Glocks for decades, now that it's been over 20 years for me.:D

BTW, a "state-licensed security company" will also qualify for the "blue label" pricing from Glock, if that helps your budget.

I have a P-320 in 9MM and it has been flawless at the 300 round mark! I started out to buy a Glock19 and the 320 followed me home, no regrets.

I also have M&P40 pretty much same as the 9 and it too is a great gun and no issues.

Not knocking Glocks as I have some as well.

Appreciate you all

Again Glocks and MPs are damn fine guns.My officers really like the Sig P320. Plus it's different. A friend of mine emailed me about another choice, because of price.Canik TP9 V2 9mm. I have shot this and it's not bad. The Sig P320C has been great. The deal our district getting them on is just 27.00 more per gun then Glock. Appreciate all input. Hope get more. I have Glocks also. One Mp45.

I'm NOT a Glock-o-phile but of those I would probably opt for the G19. I don't like the high bore axis of Sigs handguns and in a light weight poly frame gun I imagine that would contribute to a little more muzzle rise than I would find acceptable for a 9mm. Especially using +P loads. That said I've never shot the P320. I have shot the G19 know that it is a very controllable handgun. It's actually the gun that made me want a 9mm.

Glock 19 and be done with it. There are so many holster options, mags are cheap, sights can be swapped if policy allows it (Glock 3 dot night sights are fine), they are inexpensive, easy to maintain, have a proven track record. The list of reasons why goes on and on.

The other two are hardly bad choices, but the list of pros isn't nearly as long as that of the Glock. You are in the luxurious position of choice, and you can't really lose with any of them.

If I had to outfit an agency tomorrow, it would be with Glock 19s or 17s, no questions asked. And my current agency issues Glock 22s.

The only one of the three with which I have any experience is the G19. With that caveat, . . . .

1) All three are said to be good handguns, and all from reputable manufacturers.

2) The P320 has been getting really good reviews. While I really like the idea of a convertible pistol, allowing me to swap around for whatever size pistol I need at the moment, I won't be selling my G19 to buy one.

3) Blue Label pricing. I don't know whether you would all qualify for it or not, but it's hard to beat a NIB Glock at BL prices. I don't know what the current BL pricing is, so you'd need to check into that. With that said, I'd also check with the other companies and see if they have similar programs.

4) One thing I've never had to worry about with my G19 is aftermarket support. If someone makes a widget, they make a widget that fits a Glock. Holsters, lights, mags, you name it.

5) At about 3.5 years and almost 2k rounds, I'm happy with my G19. "Perfection?" No. She's had some hiccups. However, I haven't had a hiccup in, oh, probably 1400+ rounds. (knocks on wood). The one repair I had to make was ridiculously easy. (If I can do it, anyone can.) She eats whatever ammo I feed her, and is more than accurate enough for defensive purposes.

I'd probably select the G19, simple, easy to work on, cheap magazines & accessories, wide array of G19-specific holsters to pick from instead of one that is similar, but might fit too tight/loose, same for spare mag pouches.

The Sig is kinda cool in that the grip frame can be replaced after it gets gouged, damaged or just worn slick... but it would probably take many years for that ability to be useful.

I've never been a big fan of the MP's though, not because there is anything wrong with them, I just don't care for the softer sticky material in the grip.
That stuff is ok in power tools that I mechanically wear out in 10 years - the sticky soft stuff is all gross and fraying/peeling by then - but not in a gun that *could* last 50+ years. That's obviously not a concern for this purpose, but...

Plenty of departments use Glock 19s, and I'm sure they were evaluated against full-size pistols as well.

Glock 19 or 17. If it would be an option, I might pick the 19, carry with its magazine, and then carry 17 magazines as spares.

DubC-Hicks,

You make it sound as if the G19 is tiny compared the M&P 9 full sized.

It is only about .27" shorter in length- not 1" or more.
It is also only about 10mm shorter in height. or about .39" from bottom of mag to top sight.
It isn't like comparing a M&P 9c to the G17 or M&P 9 fs.
It isn't like comparing a Kahr handgun to any of them.
There is not much real difference in size, especially for security engaged in open carry.

I concede that the G17 seems just as good for the purpose listed, but the G19 is the largest 'compact' sized handgun I've felt.
It is only really 'compact when compared to a 6" S&W 686 or a 1911 with 5" barrel.';)

Jericho1911,

I have the G22 [gen3] and G23 [gen4], so I have both size platforms. Where I am, there is no ability to have a mag larger than 10, so the only advantage of the G22 is the longer sight radius for my eyes.

I like the M&P fit in the hand better than the Glock fit- even comparing M&P to Glock Gen 4. This isn't comparing the M&P 9 full sized, but the M&P 45 full sized to the G21 and G30SF, and the M&P 9 Compact to the G23 [gen 4 or gen 3]. Yes, Gen 4 G19s have adjustability of backstraps, but the 'smallest' backstrap still feels thicker/longer reach than the smallest M&P backstrap.

I don't care for any of the triggers in stock configuration, but I am happy with my APEX DCEAK in both of my M&P handguns, and like the Ghost Tactical connectors in my Glocks.

I have never held a Sig P320, but hear good things about them on SigForum.com.
I have a Sig P225 and like it, but all the hammer-fired Sig's I've held felt taller in the hand than either Glock or M&P.

My Dad loves his Springfield XdM- but that sits tall in the hand for me also [higher bore axis]. Seems about the same price as the ones you listed.

Good luck!
