9.3X62

Especially considering how potent this round is, the recoil is surprisingly light. It has a recoil only a little stronger than a .30-06, and noticeably less than a .375 H&H. Using a rifle that fits you well, with a good recoil pad, this is a very manageable caliber.

However, if you want one cartridge to cleanly, ethically, and legally hunt virtually every animal in the world, the 9.3x62mm will fit that bill.

Congrats on the wonderful hunt, and success. I took record book Blesbok, Kudu, and other plain's game, but not a Buff, my next hunt I hope!!!

I was considering the 9.3 CZ in the 550 full stock, 20 inch barrel FS for bear protection in Alaska while fishing... I Have a .458 Lott, and my son has a Browning 450 Marlin, so I should be covered, but I just love that CZ ... handled one at last years' NRA convention.

Very nice kudu!
The CZ550 is a nice gun. I used to have one in 9.3x62mm, but I sold it and bought the Ruger instead because they don't make the CZ in a left handed version. My cousin has a CZ550 in 9.3x62mm with a full stock and loves it. He took it to Africa a couple of years ago and was very successful. The PH called it the "laser" because it put everything down just like it had been struck by lightning. The full stock is pretty cool looking too.

A lot of the responses were for hunting scenarios, which is quite different than self-defense rifle shooting. I believe I could kill any bear with a .243 in hunting situations with the shot being one of choice and the bear not knowing where I am; change that to a charging bear with my address, now I have a completely different story, and nothing less than a .45 of some sort will do!

In a charge situation I want the bear to go all gooey and loose, NOW!
