707 Lb NC Russian Boar

Hogzilla

The documentary about Hogzilla was on today. The scientists that dug up the body and tested it say it was 8 or 8 1/2 feet long and weighed 800 pounds. Not as big as it was claimed but huge just the same. They said that DNA proved it was a cross between a wild hog and a Yorkshire. The one thing that got my attention was that a hog has the ability to continue to grow its entire life.It has no genes or anything that will limit it to a certain size.So if a food source is available these monsters are posible.

So if a food source is available these monsters are posible.
They have access to all the food they want since they are omnivorous.

These big hogs tend to come from the South and Southeast where there are mild Winters and long growing seasons

The NC hog is NOT a Russian boar. It may be feral, but that is a domestic hog. The real key factor in seeing this is the forehead on the hog. It has a pronounced forehead. Russian boars don't have this.

The Texas example noted was a domestic hog turned out some months prior. The Hogzilla that kid shot in GA was a domestic hog named Fred that was reportedly a very docile animal.

Couple years ago there were articles in OK media about an 800 pound plus wild boar hog that some Okie killed. The animal had huge floppy ears, a domestic hog forehead and the Hampshire band.

Years ago i killed a huge white sow, an American Landrace by breed. That sow had 14 pig nursing stations. She had 2- 3" of fat all over. A family had recently moved away and released several hogs into the wild.

Wild hogs have hardscrabble lives. 300 pound wild hogs are rare. 400 pound wild hogs are nearly non-existent. Most wild hogs do not have bacon. Some are downright skinny.

This one was pretty large, but no where near 700 lbs. SC pig. Almost looks domestic, but it was not. Shot behind the shoulder with 180 grain .30-06. It did not pass through.
