7 WSM 1000 yd rifle.

Anyone have any experience with 7 WSM for 1k yards? I have a .338 WSM that I have been shooting for a couple years, but its time for a new barrel and I will be going smaller than .338 this time. I have a .284 Winchester that is awesome. On a good day it shoots around 4" at 1000. On a bad day it does not much worse. I am thinking about rebarreling the .338 to 7WSM. The only thing is I do not ever see 7WSM's at matches. I am starting to see some 6x7WSM's, but I dont recall ever seeing a 7. I am thinking the 7 WSM would be awesome with one of the 180 Bergers. Any thoughts?
 
2.67" is a world record for a bench rest 7 WSM. Strictly a .308 man myself but a good friend of mine uses a 6.5x55 so why not a 7MM?
 
I guess I will build one then. Anyone know if the 7 WSM would shoot the 180 Bergers best at standard neck length or should I long throat it, if so how much longer?
 
I was under the impression 7mmWSM only gave a slight velocity advantage over the 284 Win but with much lower barrel life?

And since you already have a 284 you wouldn't really need the 7mmWSM?
Unless you just want it then "need" doesn't really matter.

Was also under the impression 7mmWSM was in hot pursuit of 6.5x284 for benchrest stuff, but then 284 Win came back on the scene and knocked it's popularity back a bit.
 
The .284 Winchester is the "new'' up and coming thing in 1000 yd. The .284 Win is my favorite at the moment, but I am always looking for something new. I currently shoot .338 WSM, 6x284, 6.5x284, and .284 Win. .338 Lapua is actually my most accurate rifle, but its not practical to shoot in competition.
 
I would go with a 7mm SAUM myself, but any of the 7 magnums are a dominating F Class open right now.
