7.7x58 Arisaka ammo availability question.

7.7 ammunition and brass is available enough now that you need not go to the trouble to improvise it out of .30-06. Unless you just like to tinker with that sort of stuff.

Something you can do right away is study up.
Do you have a handloading manual?
If not, get one and read it ALL, don't just jump to the page with the biggest numbers.

I don't own one yet, though my LGS does carry some reloading books. I think it's either Hornady or RCBS I think is their name.

if you do get a reloading manual, make sure it actually has 7.7 data. the only two books I've seen(though I have not picked up a RCBS book) is the sierra book and hornady. sierra's data is much more realistic as they actually use arisakas as their test gun. hornady uses very long non standard barrel lengths which make their velocities look deceptively higher than everyone elses.

Brass is available, but doesn't really give you any measurable advantage over forming it.
7.7x58mm is easy to form from .30-06, if you have the tools.
You just need some '06 brass, a method for trimming (file-trim die, or case trimmer), and a 7.7x58mm sizing die.
It's even easier to form from 8x57mm brass (due to less trimming), if you have some available.

Some people will tell you that .30-06-based 7.7 cases will expand too much in the chamber, and create a hazardous condition; but fact that .30-06 is to blame is a fallacy.

Some chambers are tight. Most are somewhat generous. And, some chambers are horribly oversize.

Any chamber that's large enough to allow dangerous expansion of .30-06 or 8x57mm cases is also large enough to allow the same amount of expansion with a 7.7x58mm case.
It just means you have a massively oversize chamber.
...just something to be aware of.
