7.62x39 rifle

I really like my Mini-30...but I am watching a CZ 527 7.62x39mm bolt action at an upcoming gun auction. I may decide I need it, if the price is right.

Both "hickok45" and "Sturmgewehr" give some decent Vz-58 reviews on Youtube.
The Vz reportedly has less recoil than the AK clones, has the 'bho' feature and is milled.

I am looking at the VZ 58 as well, may get one someday.

Then there is the CZ 527 bolt action carbine, I will be getting one of those.

I would love to see the CZ 805 come to the US in both 7.62x39 and 5.56.

If you don't want an AK based design or SKS... CZ is your best bet for a quality firearm in 7.62x39... CZ stomps the tar out of an AK anyway. :p

The savage is a little longer, has a full length bolt, and costs a little more. Savage does make good rifles. The question is the bore... is it properly bored for the 7.62x39 or is it the smaller .308 bore? (they make the same gun in .308) That affects accuracy.

:D

SA vz-58. Light, accurate, reliable, and I love loading the caliber.

CZ 527M carbine 7.62x39mm. This one I cast bullets for, too.;)

Love 'em both.

x39 bolt

A bolt rifle in x39mm is a useful, medium powered shooter that will accomplish much of what most of us need a rifle to do. Mines a Ruger m77II , and I hear good things about the CZ as well.

You won't win on the 600 yd line, its not a grizzly rifle, or a varminter, but it will do deer, hogs and black bear when applied correctly, and varmints within its range. A whole lot cheaper to shoot then .308 or 'o6 too. Easier on the pocketbook and shoulder.

If I wanted a GP semiauto x39 rifle, the Mini-30 gets my vote.

I believe Savage is .308 bore. Does it really affect accuracy? I have small ring 7.62x39 Mauser built on Numerich .308 bore barrel, it is accurate with Wolf ammo. there is obviously market for 7.62x39 bolt guns, Savage put out their 7.62x39 on an expensive platform, don't know what they are thinking. No aftermarket x39 Savage barrels on the market too. Wish someone would jump in make some Savage 7.62x39 barrels or organize a group buy.

primary options besides the AK and SKS would be

VZ58
mini-30
sig 556R

out of all of these, the sig 556R would probably be the most expandable, adaptable, and ergonomic platform, i would choose that

Vz.58 would be THE way to go if I were look for non-AK 7.62x39 semi-auto rifle.

what about the PTR-32 it is i think???? its the one that takes AK mags.

Wouldn't do that one. It's a cool idea, but they weigh probably a good 3 pounds more than your typical AK, cost more money, seem to be picky with mags, and all without any proven advantages over the AK.

Wouldn't do a Sig-556R, they're widely reported to be problematic particularly with steel-cased ammo and also cost much more than most AK's. Additionally, they can only accept polymer AK mags, the use of steel mags will cause damage to the receiver. If you're gonna pay 2x or more the price of an AK, you shouldn't have to give up reliability and durability.
