7.5x55 Swiss Stripper Clip Question

I have five of the regular issue clips but was wondering, wouldnt a .308/7.62x51 NATO clip work as well? At least for .284 Win Casings necked up for a K-31? They have the exact same rim diameter. For when I do start shooting my K-31 again, it'd be nice to have some Stripper clips I'm not worried about breaking. Thanks for your help,

The clip slot in the Swiss rifles is much too large for the Mauser, M1903, Swedish or NATO clips.

Somebody somewhere is supposed to be bringing new production one's to market (heck, for the 20$ a pop they go for, I may have to hit up alibaba.com and find a Chinese plant to pump out a few thousand in Nylon...)

308/06 is also a good .03" or so narrower than 7.5x55 at the rim, so you'll need a clip stretcher (Mauser clips could work; they did do a limited run of them for 7.5x55 K31's in WWII but I doubt they would be secure without an adapter of some sort). The cardboard clips are probably about .08 fatter than the cases, so lots thicker than a stamped sheet metal clip

I was able to make one (so far) clip from felt and epoxy that works well enough. Just too much work at the moment to make more, since I do have enough to tide me over for a while.

There actually is (or should be) a slot for a stamped metal clip as well as the issue ones in the receiver. They were designed so that both would work. Also, I'm using reformed .284 win brass, which is the same as .308 and .01 mm off of 30.06 rim diameter. Someone very generously offered me some .308 clips and in just wanted to be sure incase I end up not being able to use them.

As for someone making them SwissBianco is in the process of producing some stamped ones. Heck, I bet I could make some, I know how to use a press brake and belt sander. That might actually be a good project. ..
 
Yo, Mo! Clarify. Are you talking about the "Charger" or the magazine?
Those Swiss chargers are 100+ years old and are still working great! They're not fragile.
 
The charger, specifically.I just don't want to break them. One bent the other day (my dad put something on it by accident) and i had to bend it back ever so slightly, It's not noticeable now, but It made me worry about breaking them.
 
Well, yeah I guess so, going around kicking rifles out of the snow, haha. Thanks for your help, ZFK. Is there a special way you're supposed to load them? I've been sticking the rim in first and then pivoting the bullet in.

I have checked an 1889, a 1911 and a K31 and darned if I can see any second slot for a metallic clip or at least not one that is different in dimensions from other Swiss clips. Could you post a picture of one of those actions showing the second clip guide? Thanks.

OK, my confusion. Yes, there are notches for a clip in those Swiss rifles, probably with the idea that they could use a Mauser type clip if one was ever adopted, but AFAIK ammo was issued only in the cardboard type clip. But the question was whether a 7.62 NATO clip (as in the M14 rifle) could be used with a Swiss rifle and my response was no, it could not, nor can any of the conventional Mauser type clips, though the Swedish and Arisaka clips will accept Swiss ammo, as will the Springfield clip(!).

The video is of a new clip, of which I was unaware, made by that company, that fits only the Swiss rifles; again, AFAIK, nothing like it was ever Swiss military issue.

Try the Swedish clip if you want, but all those clips (other than the ones being made and sold specifically for them) are far too small for the Swiss rifles. The clip will fit down into the receiver, but is so loose it would have to be held in position with one hand while the rounds are stripped into the magazine.

I do wish that a large quantity of K31 chargers at reasonable prices would show up here. I love how well they function.
In lieu of that, it would be great to see a well made, properly dimentioned polymer version.
 
James I imagine I could use hot glue or a mig welder to get it up to size. Either that or just flat it out a bit. It wouldn't be too awful hard to fabricated some clips with a press brake, might have to try that with mine sometime.

Amd, you can search ebay or gun shows foe them. I got five loaded clips with my rifle. Best deal I think I've ever got on anything...
 
Around 12 years ago I brought in maybe 500 of those chargers. I sold them to SRDC members for $1 each. I'm truly astounded at the going price now.
