642 Club @ TFL

I have a 442 and it's a great BUG.

I'll probably buy a 642 next year just because I can. This year has been accounted for as far as firearms go. I've bought four so far, and plan on three more.

One of the three will be the new/old model 40 "Lemon Squeezer" that S&W is reintroducing.

what holsters do you all like?

Nothing fancy...High Noon Bare Asset for IWB and a leather pocket holster ( that I bought from a member here ) called the Pocket Protector. I love the Bare Asset and haven't really formed an opinion about the Pocket Protector yet. I also have a DeSantis ankle holster on the way but that hasn't even arrived yet

638

Does anyone have any experience with the 638? It doesn't have the full hammer, but has the kind of slide hammer. From the side it looks hammerless but it really isn't.

The 638 is a Bodyguard, and like the 649 pictured above in this thread it has a shrouded hammer. They in fact have a regular hammer, the frame is just extended up in a hump to cover the sides. This style reduces the chance of snagging the hammer while still keeping single action capability.

642 club

Another happy 642 owner. I was fortunate to buy mine a few years ago, before S&W did the internal lock thing. I tried using the little stubby Crimson Trace grips, originally, and found them most uncomfortable to use and hard to handle under the lively recoil. I sold them to a TFL member last year, after he read a previous post of mine, in which I expressed my disdain for them. I went to the local gun shop and bought a pair of Houges for it and absolutely love them. It's only a tad harder to conceal this way, but allows faster acquisition from concealment, allows all available fingers to be put to use and those Houges stick like glue in my hands. I almost always just put it in a pocket, although I do have several holsters for it, and I almost always have it with me. If I had to pick just one, I guess I would still be a 642 owner.

Rusty grip screw

642 here, bought it a few months ago, love it. I pocket carry it mainly, and I was wondering - does anyone else have a problem with the grip screw rusting up? I'm a lefty, which causes the slot end of the screw to face my leg. Does anyone know of a source for a stainless grip screw?

Playboypenguin: nice grips!

I was looking for a new summertime carry piece, so I just bought a 642-2 and have to say I think I like it. Took it out to the range and realized that I need more practice. Oh well, as a CCW it's not gonna need to be real accurate at 15 yds... if I need to use it, it'll be up close. It's much lighter than the Kimber that I normally carry, and smaller as well. That should be a plus for the warmer weather.

it's about time I joined the club....

I just picked up a S&W 642 today!

I'll hopefully have some pics soon...can't wait to get it to the range!

I carry a 642 in a pocket holster, filled with 38 spl +p, when My Kahr MK9 is starting to feel heavy.
